The Starfield preload dates are finally here, meaning players can already download the open-world, space-faring RPG in full early on Xbox and Steam to be ready for launch.

Starfield is one of the most highly-anticipated games of the year, and after multiple delays reaching back to 2021, the game is finally approaching its September 6 release date. So, if you're one of the many looking to catch the hype train and ensure you're ready once it's available, check out the game's preload dates and how to download it early.

What are the preload dates?

The Starfield preload dates for Xbox and Steam have been revealed as the following:

  • Xbox - August 17
  • Steam - August 30

This means all players on Xbox Series X|S, Windows Store, and Steam can currently begin preloading Starfield now to be ready for early access on September 1, or the full launch on September 6.

This should give players enough time to install the massive download size of 125 GB before it releases on September 6.

For the players who plan to enjoy Starfield with Xbox Game Pass, you can also begin preloading Starfield, and can even obtain early access with the Deluxe Edition Upgrade.

How to download it early on Xbox and Steam

As long as you have the game, you can download Starfield early on Xbox and Steam from your game library, as it is now after the dates we've listed above.

Just select Starfield, and click 'Download' or 'Install' in the relevant area.

From there, once the full game releases, you should be able to begin playing immediately, unless there is a day-one patch to install first.

That's all for our explanation of the Starfield preload dates, and now you know how to download the game early on Xbox and Steam.
