Apex Legends Octane is both a slippery bugger and a daredevil in one explosive package. His players might have gained a bad rep thanks to his speedy abilities, but there are few playable characters in Apex Legends that can dominate the battlefield and get out of trouble quite like him. But who exactly is he? And how can you master him? Here’s our guide to pinning down the metal-legged speedster and mastering the Apex Legends Octane abilities.

Octane’s abilities are, naturally, all about speed. His tactical ability is the biggest proof of this, with his stim injection amping up his movement speed by 30%, but costing health. It’s got a quick recharge, but the health loss is a big deterrent for constant use. Luckily, though, his Swift Mend passive ability allows him to recover health over time, meaning that you won’t have to constantly stop to syringe yourself when you’re darting across the map.

Apex Legends Octane’s Ultimate

Octane’s ultimate gives his teammates as well as himself the chance to pick up some speed and get the best of enemy teams - or even get away from them sharpish. His Launch Pad sends players launching into the air, either straight upwards or forwards if you slide into it, also offering players a double-jump option if they want to go even further.

Many players may go totally nuts with stims, sacrificing a huge portion of their health for a lot of speed - it can work, but if you get caught off guard by an enemy team, they’ll be able to take care of you incredibly quickly. Try not to spam your stims so much, and try to cap out at two stims in a row before you start to regenerate your health afterwards.

If there is any one time to go ham with your stims, though, it’s right as you land. Use your speed boosts to loot as fast as you can, and don’t let any other players on enemy teams have any chance to grab a weapon before you can take them down.

One thing that many Octane players neglect to remember is that you can’t kill yourself with a stim. So, if you’ve got full shields and low health, and you think that the next encounter could wipe you out quickly anyway, feel free to span the stim at this point. It’ll give you some extra manoeuvrability without costing you too much in way of risk.

Even though the jump pad is an excellent way to get across the map, it’s also a creative way to deter enemies from storming a building you’re hanging out in. Drop the jump pad at the door, and if enemies try to enter they’ll either clumsily bonk their heads on the ceiling, throwing them off and allowing you to finish them off, or they’ll fly into the air outside and struggle to get inside.

It’s a win-win situation, and especially with the quick recharge time of the jump pad, you won’t have to wait long for the next chance to plant another and get out of there sharpish.

As the bored son of the busy CEO of Silva pharmaceuticals, Octavio Silva turned to performing death-defying stunts to quell his thirst for adrenaline. Building an online fanbase, his stunts became more and more extreme, until he set a course record for a local gauntlet. It just so happens that he used a live grenade to see him over the finish line.

Now with mechanical legs built by his friend Ajay Che (Lifeline to you and I), he’s able to rebuild himself on the fly, and has graduated from the cheap thrills of his normal life. He now competes in the Apex games to keep him from the same boredom that cost him his legs.

That’s everything you need to know about Apex Legends’ Octane - now take him to the arena, and be quick about it.
