CS:GO is dead and Counter-Strike 2 has taken over its corpse, but is this new version of CS able to be played on Mac computers?
Valve's long-running shooter has taken a headshot, but it's come from Valve itself - with CS2 replacing the original. That means you'll find it in your Steam library if you've played CS:GO, but if you're on Mac it may not be that simple. Below, we'll outline whether or not you can play the game on Mac.
Can you play Counter-Strike 2 on Mac?
Unfortunately, players are unable to play Counter-Strike 2 on Mac, as it's a Windows and Linux exclusive.
Will Counter-Strike 2 get macOS support?
Valve has confirmed that Counter-Strike 2 will never be coming to Mac, and it will be exclusively focusing on Windows and Linux moving forward. This will no doubt be a bummer for plenty of Mac players who enjoyed CS:GO.
This was revealed in a Steam support FAQ post, stating: "As technology advances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for older hardware, including DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems.
"Similarly, we will no longer support macOS. Combined, these represented less than one percent of active CS:GO players. Moving forward, Counter-Strike 2 will exclusively support 64-bit Windows and Linux."
While some were concerned about the graphical upgrades to CS2, with smoke grenades and the new maps, for example, it turned out to be the small player base in the end that sealed the deal for Mac users. It sucks for players on macOS, but there are workarounds they could use to simulate a Windows PC on their device.
That's all you need to know if you are wondering about Counter-Strike 2 Mac support and whether it will be released for the OS. Check out our CS2 homepage for more guides like what the Counter-Strike 2 tick rate is.
