Fancy trying out the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, do ya? Vow of the Disciple is about to hit Destiny 2 players like a tonne of bricks, and for those that maybe haven't played a Raid before, you would be forgiven for thinking you could just turn up on the day and hope for the best. The Destiny 2 Witch Queen raid, like all those that came before it, requires a decent amount of preparation to take on the greatest challenge the game has to offer. That's why we've worked up a list of five things you should do to prepare for the Destiny 2 Witch Queen raid called Vow of the Disciple, and get that light level up.

One of the most impressive elements of the latest expansion is it's campaign - it's part of the reason we rated the DLC so highly in our Destiny 2 The Witch Queen review. However, for those looking for more challenge that narrative, Bungie introduced the Destiny 2 Legendary difficulty, which buffs enemy health and damage, and significantly changes the pace of combat.

However, for those looking to get their light level up quickly for the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, it allows you to essentially skip around 20 levels of light. The base campaign will round you up to around 1500, but if you make it through the legendary campaign, you'll come out the other side with a 1520 armour set - take a look at our Destiny 2 power level cap if you need to remind yourself of how the light level system works. This will immediately bring you closer to the recommended level, which at its lowest sits around 1535.

How To Prepare For The Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid: Beat Dungeons

First introduced in the Forsaken DLC, dungeons are a fairly new form of endgame activity that bring Raid-like gameplay obstacles to a three-player mode. While these activities can take up a decent amount of time and require a fair amount of coordination, they will be worth it for boosting your light level with some high-end loot. This is one of the greatest ways to prepare for the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, as you are practically guaranteed gear that is at least a few light levels above your current standing.

At the time of writing there are three dungeons that players can fight through, namely The Shattered Throne on the Dreaming City, Pit of Heresy on the Moon, and the Grasps of Avarice on the Cosmodrome. Be aware however that these dungeons require expansions such as Shadowkeep and the most recent through the Bungie 30th Anniversary Edition. More dungeons will be released throughout Year 5 of Destiny 2 but they controversially require the Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen Expansion.

  • You might also want to focus on the revamped Destiny 2 Void 3.0 system to find the perfect build for the raid.

How To Prepare For The Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid: Grind The Wellspring

One of the newest forms of endgame content is The Wellspring, which was introduced via The Witch Queen expansion. This is a six player activity found on Savathun's Throne World that is recommended to players levelled at 1510. For every three times you complete The Wellspring, you will receive a higher tier of powerful gear, capping at tier three. So after nine completions, you should be receiving gear that will slowly, but surely creep that light level up.

There is also an intense 1580 light level difficulty for The Wellspring which players can unlock by levelling up Destiny 2 Fynch to level 18. Additionally, levelling up with Fynch can boost your light level by up to three, so by doing The Wellspring you are hitting two birds with one stone.

How To Prepare For The Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid: Level Up Your Artefact

To prepare for the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, you are going to want to level up the Synaptic Spear Artefact. This is done purely through the amount of XP you earn, so be sure you are raking up bounty completion, and delving into all of the activities mentioned so far. As you level up, you will be able to acquire perks which apply to specific weapon types for the most part but can be the difference between life and death in the higher difficulties - just be sure to apply these perks to your armour.

What's great about the Artefact is that it does allow you to unlock every single perk in its arsenal, but of course this will take a serious amount of XP grinding. Focus on weekly seasonal challenges and triumphs as they will at times jump you up half a rank or more. That's not to say you will be able to apply them all, but you will be able to switch them back and forth depending on your loadout. Each level up on the Artefact will also apply a power bonus to help that bit more.

How To Prepare For The Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid: Customise Your Weapons

While our main focus for our preparation of the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, has been based on boosting your light level, weapons customisation is all about getting the edge on your enemy. The Destiny 2 weapons crafting system is one of the biggest game changers of The Witch Queen, and players should make the most of it when turning to the Raid.

This means you'll learn how to earn Destiny 2 weapons crafting materials, and other returning resources such as enhancement cores so you can get those masterworks in. We imagine that the Destiny 2 Glaive will be a popular new pick for the Witch Queen Raid.

That's how we would prepare for the Destiny 2 Witch Queen Raid, so you best get to work before it launches to get that light level all the way up to the soft cap. One weapon that might interest players for the raid is the exotic Dead Messenger grenade launcher. Head on over to our guide on the Destiny 2 Vox Obscura quest to get your hands on this beefy weapon.
