How to play songs on the Shawzin in Warframe

What is the Shawzin in Warframe?

The Shawzin is a stringed musical instrument reminiscent of a bass guitar. It initially just made a background appearance in the game during The Sacrifice quest, but since then it has been added as a decoration for your ship and an emote that allows players to play music themselves.

There are a few variations of the Shawzin that players can get, and while some are just reskins of Dax's Shawzin, others have different sound profiles.

How to play songs in Warframe

Playing songs on the Shawzin requires a bit of practice, as they act like instruments in the real world with different scales, notes, and measures: Firstly, you will need to add the Shawzin emote to your quickbar, which will be earned when you get your first instrument.

During this emote, you will crouch to the ground, and a new overlay will display the controls for playing the Shawzin. For a quick rundown, you play the strings with the number keys, change the scales with TAB, and change the fret with the arrow keys.

With this, you can mess around and experiment with the sounds to make your own music or find song transcriptions to play. Songs are stored as a series of numbers and letters, and they'll begin with a number from one to nine, indicating the scale the song is played at.

After this, there will be a range of numbers, letters, and symbols which show you what notes need to be played. Notes always consist of three characters, with the first one showing the exact note that needs to be played. The second character identifies which measure the note is played in, from A-Z, a-z, 0-9, +, and /, making for 64 measures. The third character will display what position the measure is played at.
