Spider-Man 2 story leaks are the ultimate ‘trust me, bro’

It's been five years since Peter Parker swung across the New York City skyline and Insomniac Games gave us one of the greatest superhero games of all time. But, as we squeeze into our spandex all over again, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 looks like a bigger and more brutal affair.

Surprising no one, the various teases of Venom have led to that Sinister Symbiote spreading its tendrils in the 2023 sequel, while the fan-favourite Kraven the Hunter is putting Peter and Miles Morales in his crosshairs as a secondary baddie. That's about all we know, unless you believe the Spider-Man 2 story leaks.

Warning: Potential Spider-Man 2 leaks ahead - but take them with a pinch of salt.

What are the Spider-Man 2 story leaks?

Over on Reddit, someone has collated a seemingly massive leak from 4chan. Ah, so there we have it. 4chan is a notoriously sketchy source of information, and while it's been right in the past, it's largely held as something of a "trust me, bro" place to get your scoops.

Taking this with a pinch of salt, the OP claims to have the inside track on the Spider-Man 2. Apparently, the story will pick up with Peter and Miles hunting a serial killer around NYC, which at least fits with the promises Spider-Man 2 will be a lot darker than its predecessor.

Peter will supposedly be infected by the Venom symbiote (voiced by Candyman's Tony Todd) when MJ reunites with Harry Osborn. You might remember Harry was MIA for the first game but later appeared in a cryptic post-credit scene.

Norman Osborn hires Kraven to take out Peter and Miles but abandons the contract and decides to taunt Parker in his own way - making Osborn likely to be another enemy.

There might be playable sections with Eddie Brock, however, the devs apparently "took player feedback" on stealth sections with MJ and Miles, meaning it won't be the same. None of this sounds too outlandish, but also, none of it sounds that spoilerific.

Is the Spider-Man 2 story leak real?

It's unclear who Venom will be in Spider-Man 2, with the leak setting up Peter, Harry, and Eddie as potentials. With the leak being a little flimsy, we're going to err on the side of caution.

As a caveat for whether these leaks are the real deal, the OP claims Kraven's name will be Sergei Kravinov instead of the usual comic book spelling of Kravinoff. When more details on the characters emerge, this is one way to tell whether the leak is legit.

For the time being, we're left in the dark. Although there have been whispers about a potential September release, Insomniac has kept quiet on an official Spider-Man 2 release. Some were concerned it would be delayed, but the game's Twitter recently clapped back at that idea.

In early April, Insomniac appealed to fans and explained, "We're in the kitchen. It smells good in there, but we just ask for a little more patience." Still, as the months tick on and Spider-Man 2 doesn't lock in a release date, we're anxious to shout, "Go web, go."
