When it comes to cooking up thrilling and imaginative superhero games, we've got to admit that Insomniac Games is something of a scientist itself. Following the record-breaking success of 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man, 2023's Spider-Man 2 upped the ante. Now, we're looking at Spider-Man 3 to round off a trilogy.

Despite the OG Spider-Man kicking things off with the Sinister Six and Spider-Man 2 giving us Venom, there are plenty of vile villains left for Peter and Miles to tackle. Notably, the looming menace of the Green Goblin would be a popular choice for Spider-Man 3. Unfortunately, the surprise might've been spoiled ahead of time.

SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers for 2023's Spider-Man 2 ahead

Leaked Insomniac artwork shows off the Green Goblin

You'll remember the devastating ransomware attack that revealed Insomniac's supposed plans into 2030 and beyond. In addition to the already confirmed Wolverine, there were spoilers for a Venom spin-off, Spider-Man 3, and an X-Men crossover. Amidst all of this was a reportedly cancelled multiplayer Spider-Verse game.

After a tantalising teaser trailer for the canned project recently did the rounds, fans have been digging deeper and found a whole web of intrigue. As seen over on Imgur, a series of concept art drawings show off what we're missing out on. More than just spoiling the Spider-Verse game, they give an apparent first look at the Green Goblin.

In one picture, Norman Osborn looks out on a fiery New York City skyline filled with Green Goblins on gliders. It's unclear what this means, but with Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web tipped to be a Multiverse adventure, chances are these are versions of Osborn (or other Green Goblins) from other dimensions.

If you want a closer look at Gobby in action, @MSM_Action has apparently got its hands on the early concept art of Green Goblin. Giving us a much more classic version of the character, it looks more like a full-body transformation than Osborn in a suit. From this, it's hard to tell if it's even Norman Osborn under the tattered robe.

Aside from being arguably Spidey's most iconic adversary, the first two games have done a great job of cueing the flying foe. If Osborn being the crooked former mayor of NYC wasn't enough, we've seen his slow descent into madness trying to find a cure for his son's medical condition.

Spider-Man 2 ended with Norman meeting with Doctor Octopus at the Raft prison, with the latter saying he's preparing his "final chapter." With Norman previously mentioning the G-Serum (Goblin Serum maybe?), it's likely he'll take on the moniker of the Green Goblin next time around.

Green Goblin is an enemy that's already been given the nod by Creative Director Bryan Intihar, who told Kinda Funny Games how the first game was like the MCU's Iron Man, the second like Civil War, and the third will be Avengers: Endgame. Intihar mentioned the Green Goblin and explained, "I will tell you that character has been about at the start of every game."

In typical Insomniac style, we're expecting any iteration of the Green Goblin to be a massive departure from the source material...if he appears at all. Whoever the big bad of Spider-Man 3 is, let's hope Insomniac's next game does better than Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3.
