PS Plus removing Spider-Man is great news for Spider-Man 2
The arrival of Spider-Man 2 is massively, massively anticipated by comic book fans and PlayStation die-hards alike. And it's hard to fault them because we feel the same.
The two games that have preceded it have been breathtaking examples of what a Spider-Man outing can be, truly making players feel like the web-slinger and giving the criminals of New York the hell they deserve.
Its full-blown sequel is thought to be even better, and despite the high expectations, it wouldn't surprise us. But, you might want to be quick if you want to work through 2018's Spider-Man and 2020's Miles Morales.
Spider-Man 2 is being pulled from PlayStation Plus
Along with a wave of other games, Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition are set to be yanked from the Extra and Premium plans of PlayStation Plus. Worse yet, it's happening very soon.
Joining the original Resident Evil, among others, the two versions of the game are being pulled from the service and May 15, and fans have wasted no time in expressing their frustration with the move.
Marvel's Spider-Man was a stand-out among PlayStation exclusives and a big hitter for the PS Plus catalogue. Naturally, Reddit been up in arms about the move. But, it might not be as bad as it all seems.
Could Spider-Man leaving PS Plus be a good thing?
Don't fret, Spider-Friends - there's every chance that this could be a better thing than we can see right now. There's every chance that this move was made so that PlayStation could spur backward fascination in fans.
Drumming up interest in Spider-Man 2 will drive up sales of the first game, while one theory guesses that Spider-Man 2 could be a day-one launch title on PS Plus to compete with Xbox's massive day-one launches this year.
It might be a far-fetched theory, but it's certainly better than accepting the sad truth that Spider-Man just got less accessible. Even if not, removing Spider-Man from PS Plus could also be queuing the long-awaited announcement of a Spider-Man 2 release date. As for the first game, we hope you kept your physical copy.
