"We" are very much looking forward to Insomniac's next outing, as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is ready to swing into action. Most of all, we're just excited to see Tony Todd's Venom.

The wall-crawling adventure is not only poised to be one of the biggest PlayStation exclusives of the year, but one of 2023's biggest games in general. You asked for a darker adventure, and by the sounds of it, you're getting one.

Is Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Darker Than The First?

Before Spider-Man 2 was even announced in September 2021, many had guessed Venom would have a part to play. While the end of the first game teased that Harry Osborn could be connected to the symbiote storyline, no one really knows what's going on.

With Venom being one of the most iconic Spidey rogues, gamers expect big things from Insomniac. Hyping his upcoming turn as the slipper symbiote, Todd promised a brutal version of Venom - hooray.  Speaking to the Deeper Level podcast, Todd was asked how "mind-blowing" Spider-Man 2 will be.

"You know the scene in Miles Morales where they're chasing Rhino, and they're smashing through windows, you don’t know what's gonna happen, and […] breaking glass is falling down on you? That's what it's gonna be like," said Todd.

Expanding on Venom's murderous side, Todd added, "Venom doesn't play, man, and Venom doesn't give a damn. We don’t give a damn who the damn game is named after. Because I am you, you are me."

How Dark Will Spider-Man 2 Be?

There has been plenty of death and destruction in the Spider-Man games, with Insomniac famously killing off Aunt May at the end of the first game. Still, could we see Venom go on a murderous rampage and live up to the character's grisly backstory?

The likes of Rocksteady's Arkham games have never been afraid to let Joker kill, so let's hope Venom can make his mark. We were previously warned Insomniac was dialling up the darkness this time around, with Spider-Man 2 being described as the Empire Strikes Back of the franchise.

Given that's the one where Han is frozen in carbonite, Luke Skywalker loses his hand, and we find out Darth Vader is his father - largely being held as the best Star Wars movie - we're expecting big things.

Either way, the fan-favourite status of Venom coupled with the horror greatness of Candyman's Tony Todd makes Spider-Man 2 one to watch.
