The verdict is in: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a banger. Let's all pretend to be shocked. We all kind of knew that Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 would be a barnstormer of a good time. After all, how much can you mess up when working with the perfect web-slinging formula?

While some might critique the story of 2020's Miles Morales' solo adventure as pailing in comparison to the fantastic narrative of the first game, it seems very much as though the new game has made up for this difference tenfold.

As the full sequel to 2018's beloved Spider-Man, it seems that bigger really is better for our wall-crawling heroes. With improved graphics for this PlayStation 5-exclusive superhero adventure, publications are making some big claims about Spider-Man 2's credentials.

Well, that's certainly some high praise. The reviews for Spider-Man 2 are in, and though we truly adored the game, there's little doubt that other publications are really swinging for the fences. Over on Metacritic, Spider-Man 2 has a massive 91/100. So, what's everyone been saying.

VGC has claimed that the game is "undoubtedly one of the best superhero games ever," while PlayStation Universe said Spider-Man 2 is "full of emotional highs that will make you get out of your chair and cheer at the screen in a way that few games have managed to achieve in recent memory."

Taking it one step further, GamesRadar said, "Saving the world or defying gravity by flying through the skies. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is, quite simply, the best superhero game yet." Inverse similarly concluded, "It universally succeeds in that vision and takes the crown for the best superhero game ever made."

Though not all indicate a perfect experience, there are still some pretty high scores across the board, with IGN calling saying that the game is "comfy and familiar enough with just enough new tweaks and abilities" to keep things interesting.

With the current score of 91, it puts Spider-Man 2 in first place with two of Insomniac's other games holding the same acclaim. Both 2000's Spyro: Year of the Dragon and 2004's  Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal have the same score. In comparison, 2018's Spider-Man sits at 87.

Considering the sheer quality of Insomniac Games' latest title and its comparison to Sony's other offerings this year, it's already thought to be the very best PlayStation exclusive this year. Then again, it's still falling short of multi-platform releases like Baldur's Gate 3 and the Resident Evil 4 remake.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise, as console-exclusive eyes have been on the highs of Starfield and the lows of Redfall in camp Xbox. If you're a PlayStation native, there's little doubt that this could be one of the best pickups of the year. Spider-Man 2 was a long time coming, but it looks like it's been worth the wait.
