Zelda fans across the world are finally jumping back into the open world of Hyrule with the newly-released Tears of the Kingdom.

Packed with all-new quests, shrines, friends, and foes, the map sprawls across the lush plains of Hyrule, beckoning players to discover all it has to offer.

At least, we can only assume it does, behind all that pesky fog covering up the map.

Much like in the first game, Breath of the Wild, impenetrable fog covers part of the map until you scale the looming Skyview Towers and activate them. However, it’s not so simple - the activation process in Tears of the Kingdom is slightly different from the previous game.

To unlock the Skyview Towers, you need to reach the “Crisis at Hyrule Castle” quest as part of the main storyline.

First, head over to the Lookout Landing and find Purah to trigger the quest. She’ll highlight Hyrule Castle on your map, so go and check out the entrance. Use the Ascend ability you obtained at the Gutenbac Shrine to reach the top of Hyrule Castle (very handy).

Captain Hoz is patiently waiting for you at the top, so have a chat with him, then return to Purah to activate the Skyview Tower. With no long-dead King messing you around this time - Purah hands over the Paraglider, which lets you glide around Hyrule with ease.

The blue platform in the first Skyview tower will launch you into the air, where you can scan the landscape and defog the region.

Every region on the map has its own Skyview tower which can be used as a fast travel point, so it’s definitely worth making this a priority!

We have a guide for each of the different Skytowers in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Check them all out below:
