If you’re trying to get past Calip in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll have to complete a specific main quest before you can progress in the game.

Calip is a guard outside the ruins near Kakariko Village, who you might come across early in your playthrough. Follow our rundown below to get past him in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to get around Calip

If you thought you could just climb around Calip, think again. Any attempt to paraglide or climb over him will be met with a strict (and rather rude) warning that the area is out of bounds, per Princess Zelda’s commands. Confusing, considering we saw her disappear into nothing at the start of the game.

To get past Calip, you will need to complete the Regional Phenomena main quest. To unlock this quest, speak to Purah at Looking Landing. You will have to acquire the powers of the four sages by taking on their temples.

Once you have finished this quest, head over to Hyrule Castle and progress the Crisis at Hyrule Castle main mission until you unlock a new main mission called Find the Fifth Sage. At this point, Calip, who realises his orders were sent from a fake Zelda, will let you enter the Ring Ruins.

Head back to Kakariko Village and speak to Paya, the chief of Kakariko Village, and Tauro, who are next to the entrance to the Ring Ruins. Fill them in what you’ve discovered to unlock the 'Secret of the Ring Ruins' main mission.

Head inside the ruins and keep using Ascend on the floating ruins to make your way skyward, until you enter a room. You’ll spot a stone tablet in front of you. Take a photo using your Purah Pad and head back to Paya to start your adventure finding the elusive fifth sage.

I wonder who it could be…
