How To Get Petrificus Totalus In Hogwarts Legacy
To learn Petrificus Totalus, you'll need to activate the quest 'Secrets of The Restricted Section'. Luckily, this main quest will be triggered early in the game, shortly after arriving at Hogwarts with Professor Fig and after your first trip into Hogsmeade.
Once you get the main quest in your log, meet Sebastian at the library. He will show you the spell and teach you how to use it whilst sneaking up on enemies to perform a stealth take-down.

How To Use Petrificus Totalus In Hogwarts Legacy
Petrificus Totalus essentially acts as a stealth takedown in the game which will instantly take an enemy out of the fight if they are a goblin, small creature, or low-level wizard. Unfortunately, this won't instantly kill larger enemies or high-level targets, but it will take off a substantial amount of health and set you up nicely for the rest of the fight.
To use the spell you must sneak up on an enemy first, using the Disillusionment spell (also taught by Sebastian during the Restricted Section quest).
Sneak up behind an enemy and you'll be given a prompt to cast Petrificus Totalus on them. (This will be an X prompt on Xbox Controller, circle on the PlayStation controller, or F if on PC).
If you successfully eliminate your target, the Disillusionment spell will continue, you will remain undetected and you can rinse and repeat this formula for the ultimate stealth ambush.
You can further improve the potency of Petrificus Totalus and even upgrade it to have an area of effect. You can also reduce the likelihood of being detected whilst using stealth. To do so go to the 'Talents' menu and select 'Stealth' here are a list of perks you can spend Talent Points on as you level up.
- If you do get caught using Petrificus Totalus, using Mandrakes in a fight is a great way to stun enemies. Check out our guide to Mandrake Locations in Hogwarts Legacy for more information.
