Where to find & how to ride a Thestral in Hogwarts Legacy

If you're trying to find the Thestrals in Hogwarts Legacy, we have everything you need to know below, including how you can catch the beasts.

The animals can be seen flying around, and they also play a big part in the story and side quests. You can see the Thestrals because your character witnessed someone die in the opening section of the game.

Where to find Thestrals in Hogwarts Legacy

Thestrals in Hogwarts Legacy can be found in two particular dens: located in North Ford Bog and Maurween Lake as pictured below. 

North Ford Bog Thestral Den

To find the North Ford Bog Thestral Den in Hogwarts Legacy, you just need to look into the north-most part of the map and fast travel to the East North Ford Bog Floo Flame. Afterwards, the Threstral Den is just a short broom or mount ride north as pictured above on the left.

Maurenweem Lake Thestral Day

Next, the Maurnweem Lake Threstral Den is on the east side of Maurenweem Lake, which is towards the bottom of the map on the right-hand side. Fast travel to the Coastal Mine Floo Flame, and the Thestral Den can be found to the southeast. 

How to catch a Thestral in Hogwarts Legacy

Now that you have found the Thestral, the next step is catching one. To do this, you will need to follow the steps below:

• Make sure you have the Nab-Sack, Arresto Momentum and Levioso equipped
• Cast Disillusionment so you can be sneaky
• Once near the Thestral, cast Levioso or Arresto Momenum to harmlessly immobilise the animal
• When it is disoriented, use the Nab-Sack, hitting the button prompts as you slowly catch it
