Wondering how to talk to Torin and complete the Monster Research questline punchcard in Fortnite?. Created as a replacement for Epic and Legendary quests, character punchcards are a new system in Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8. The talk to Torin and complete the Monster Research questline will take players on a series of five quests related to Fortnite The Sideways. This guide will teach you how to complete all five stages of the talk to Torin and complete the Monster Research questline punchcard.
We've also got a guide on the Fortnite JB Chimpanski War Effort questline too, if you're yet to complete that.
Fortnite: Torin Location
Players will find Torin patrolling The Aftermath landmark in the centre of the island. The Aftermath is the purple crater smack dab in the middle of the map where The Spire once stood. The Aftermath is covered in Alien debris and vegetation, remnants of when the Alien Mothership abducted The Spire.
Torin hangs out at the north-east corner of The Aftermath, next to a two-story building to the left of the Cap’N Carp Delivery Truck.
How to complete all Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8 Torin Monster Research questline challenges
Stage 1 - Enter the Sideways (0/1) - 12,000 XP
Before you begin stage one of the Monster Research questline, Fortnite players must speak with Torin and accept the series of challenges. Visit Torin at The Aftermath and accept the quest to enter The Sideways.
The Sideways is an entirely new type of zone introduced in Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8. Epic Games describes The Sideways as a “dark, malevolent, monster-filled reality.” The Sideways places special restrictions on those inside of it, like no building and low gravity.
To enter The Sideways takes careful planning. The Sideways does not have one individual place where it spawns every game. Each match, one random point of interest (POI) on the map will be seized by The Sideways.
Players will need to look around the map to determine where the Sideways Zone is in that particular match. This Sideways Zone is hard to miss. It appears as a giant purple and orange-coloured bubble in-game and on the map, plus the POIs name will be highlighted in orange text.
Step foot into the Sideways Zone to complete stage one of Torin’s Monster Research questline.
Stage 2 - Collect a Sideways Weapon (0/1) - 14,000 XP
The Sideways is home to special weapons called Sideways Weapons that only spawn inside of The Sideways dimension.
Players can loot Sideways Weapons from Sideways Chests and as floor loot. Additionally, Fortnite players can craft Sideways Weapons using Cube Monster Parts. Cube Monster Parts are a new crafting material that drops from the creatures within The Sideways.
The Sideways Rifle and the Sideways Minigun are the only two Sideways Weapons available right now. Later on in Chapter 2 - Season 8, Fortnite will introduce a Sideways Shotgun and the Sideways Scythe.
Grab one of these powerful weapons from inside The Sideways to knock out stage two of the Monster Research questline.
Stage 3 - Damage Players with a Sideways Weapon (0/100) - 16,000 XP
With your new Sideways Weapon in hand, this next quest tasks Fortnite players to damage enemy players with a Sideways Weapon.
The Sideways is a popular drop spot due to the mystery and allure this new area holds. Thanks to this, The Sideways is usually littered with enemy players. Once you have a Sideways Weapon in your inventory, search the surrounding area for other players. You will almost certainly find one straggler to attack.
Listen out for gunshots, as enemy players will often be firing away at Cube Monsters. Distracted opponents dealing with these zombie-like creatures will have no chance against your sneak attack.
Find an opponent or multiple opponents and gun them down with your powerful Sideways Weapon. Fortnite players will need to deal 100 total damage to enemy players to satisfy Torin and the Monster Research questline.
Stage 4 - Eliminate Cube Monsters in the Sideways (0/10) - 18,000 XP
With the human enemies out of the way, you can now deal with the Cube Monsters in peace. Cube Monsters reside in The Sideways and come in all shapes and sizes. These creatures will attack human players in swarms, but they are usually pretty easy to deal with. Most Cube Monsters will die in just a couple of shots.
Take out ten total Cube Monsters to move on to the final stage of the Monster Research questline.
Stage 5 - Complete a Sideways Encounter - (0/1) - 20,000 XP
A lot of players are wondering what is a Fortnite Sideways Encounter? A Sideways Encounter is a special version of The Sideways.
To begin a Sideways Encounter, players must enter a Sideways Anomaly. Sideways Anomalies appear as purple rifts. These Sideways Anomalies spawn randomly around the island and are marked on the minimap as purple rift icons.
Entering a Sideways Anomaly will spawn a giant Sideways Zone and begin a Sideways Encounter. Completing the Sideways Encounter will reward loot and banish the temporary Sideways Zone.
To complete a Sideways Encounter, Fortnite players must defeat waves of Cube Monsters. These pop-up Sideways Encounters can be tough, so make sure to be well-looted before entering a Sideways Anomaly.
Defeat relentless waves of Cube Monsters until you fill the progress bar on the screen and the Sideways Zone disappears. Filling the progress bar all the way will complete the Sideways Encounter and end Torin’s Monster Research questline.
Fortnite players that complete all five stages of Torin’s Monster Research questline will be awarded 80,000 XP toward their Chapter 2 - Season 8 Battle Pass.
