Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Co-Op Possibly Discovered By Players
We're suiting up in our spandex once again, as Insomniac Games prepares to swing into action with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. With the 2018 original being up there alongside Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham City as one of the best superhero games of all time, you can only imagine how much pressure there is on the sequel to perform.
There have been plenty of Spider-Man games over the years, but until Marvel's Spider-Man, they were usually remembered for topping "worst" lists with the likes of Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. As we've seen with God of War's legacy putting all eyes on God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2 is stuck in the same boat. Thankfully, it might have an edge to put it over the competition.
Does Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Have Co-Op?
With fans trapped in a web of hype for Spider-Man 2, an interesting datamine into the Marvel's Spider-Man PC port of the original has pulled up even more potential. By the looks of it, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 could include co-op. If that wasn't enough, there's also a tease of PvP. Both Spider-Man and 2020's Miles Morales expansion were nearly flawless, however, many of us wanted to jump in with our friends.
Twittter user @dniwetamp has discovered some interesting code that points toward multiplayer elements in Spider-Man 2. When it comes to PvP, there's a cryptic line that reads "Peter Parker is the Superior Spider-Man" or "Miles Morales is the Superior Spider-Man." It implies that you'll be able to have some form of versus battle where you play as either hero.
The second clue is a little more obvious, with the datamine finding another line that reads: "If set and in co-op, Character2 will see this text." Like the battle against Rhino at the start of Miles Morales, there have been plenty of opportunities where you can imagine jumping into the fight as either makes her. The first trailer for Spider-Man 2 confirms Miles and Peter will be going up Venom and Kraven the Hunter, so to be honest, co-op makes a lot of sense.
Who Will You Play As In Marvel's Spider-Man 2?
It's definitely bizarre that this reveal is found in the PC port of Marvel's Spider-Man instead of the native PlayStation release we played in 2018. Still, it's an exciting prospect for the future of the franchise. Now that we've had solo games for Miles and Peter, many assumed you'd simply pick as your favourite for the campaign of Spider-Man 2. Then again, games like Gotham Knights have put an emphasis on free co-op where anyone can jump in at any time as another member of the Bat Family.
Critics have pointed out that a PvP where you simply duke it out as the two spiders might be a bit boring, but like GoldenEye 007's lauded multiplayer adding Jaws and Oddjob, we hope the likes of Doc Ock, Morbius, and more could be on the roster. Others have said these codes could be leftovers from something that was cut. As we take things with a heavy pinch of salt for now, remember that eight legs are better than two. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would be foolish not to explore the Spiderverse of co-op.
