How to get the new ending in Sons of the Forest
After spending almost one year in early access, Sons of the Forest has finally got its version 1.0 release, adding a plethora of new content, including a new ending and nuances to the existing one to increase replayability and keep things fresh.
Whether you're going for another run or playing for the first time, you'll probably want to know how to get the new ending in the game. So keep reading our guide as we explain everything you need for Sons of the Forest's new ending.
How to get the new ending
In Sons of the Forest, you can get the new ending by collecting all pieces of the artifact and staying on the island instead of escaping using the helicopters that arrive by following the typical story that involves collecting Maintenance and VIP Keycards, exploring them, and progressing through it.
Click to enlargeDuring early access, there were three endings in Sons of the Forest. Right after getting inside the Cube, you saved yourself from the cycle, which is not becoming the mutant monster. You could choose between:
- Stay on the island by choosing your Backpack
- Take the helicopter and leave the island
- Take the helicopter and leave the island with Virginia and Kelvin alive
Now, with the version 1.0 update, the last pieces of the mysterious artifact you find while exploring the different caves in Sons of the Forest are available to collect, giving rise to another bad ending in the game where you stay on the island.
Click to enlargeTo get this ending, you must find and acquire six pieces of the artifact before heading to the VIP bunker, the Cube, and the helicopter extraction point. Use the map screenshot shared earlier in this guide to find the required artifacts and follow the regular ending in the game.
The artifact activates and moves near your backpack when you are near the helicopter. Go near it and press and hold 'E', and that's it. After the helicopter leaves, follow the white beams in the sky, which leads to a cave with the last piece of the artifact.
Apart from that, there are also several new encounters, many boss fights and cutscenes added to the regular endings to make it feel as fresh as possible.
