Similar to any other survival game out there, Sons of the Forest has different survival mechanics in place, like thirst meter, that players must keep in check to ensure they don't run out of energy. However, getting clean water in Sons of the Forest is as difficult as convincing the mutants not to destroy your base.

Since the game does little to no handholding with its survival mechanics, getting clean water becomes a real challenge starting early in the game. So, if you are struggling to get clean water in Sons of the Forest, I've got everything you need to know below.

In Sons of the Forest, players can get clean drinking water using a Cooking Pot to boil dirty water and make it safe for drinking, ensuring you don't get any waterborne diseases and by crafting and using a Rain Catcher utility building.

To get clean water using a Cooking Pot, you must first obtain it from one of the Abandoned Camps in the western part of the island. You can find it in multiple camps and even some bunkers.

Once you have the cooking pot, the next step requires you to use some Sticks to start a campfire. After that, you must equip the Cooking Pot from your inventory that you can open by pressing the 'I' button on your keyboard.

You will find the Cooking Pot on the top left side of the inventory. Select it, go near a water body and press and hold the 'E' button to collect dirty water.

Next, place the Cooking Pot on the Campfire, hover over the cog-like icon, select the first option, "Clean Water", and press the 'LMB' to start the cooking process.

Doing so will close the Cooking Pot lid, and after some time, you will have the boiled water ready to drink and even collect in a Printed Flask that you can obtain from the 3D Printers found inside the Maintenance Bunker and others.

To build a Rain Catcher in Sons of the Forest, press the 'B' button to open the building menu. After that, select the sixth option on the right menu, "Utility." In there, navigate to the second page, you will find the Rain Catcher that you can craft using the following items:

  • Sticks x12
  • Turtle Shell x1

Sticks are easy to obtain, and you can even ask Kevin to collect them. Meanwhile, for Turtle Shells, you must head to the nearest beach and use a Spear, Bow or other weapon to kill a Turtle and collect its shell

Once you have the Rain Catcher crafted and placed, it will collect clean water over time that you can store in a Printed Flask or drink to quench your thirst.

That concludes my guide on how to get clean water in Sons of the Forest. While you are here, check out how to find and use GPS Locators, the keycard locationshow the game runs on Steam Deck, and how to get the rifle.
