All Sim Characteristics in The Sims 4 Growing Together
Sim Characteristics are a mechanic added with The Sims 4 Growing Together expansion pack which sets out to add depth to sim relationships and daily interactions. Although similar to the likes and dislikes system in The Sims 4, Sim Characteristics are things your sim likes or dislikes about other sims, not themselves.
For example, you can choose to prefer sims who are Pet Enthusiasts, when you meet a sim with this characteristic, your sim will have enhanced compatibility with them. For more information about Sim Characteristics and how they work in gameplay, read here.

How Sim Characteristics work in The Sims 4 Growing Together

Whilst in the Create-A-Sim menu, you can set your sim's preferred characteristics by clicking on the question mark symbol underneath the sim's aspiration (upper left corner of the CAS screen). The question mark will appear as a smiley and sad face icon if parts of the section are already filled out.
This will take you to the sim's Likes and Dislikes menu, from there you can select 'Sim Characteristics' which will take you to the available characteristics to either approve or disapprove. To do so, simply mark a characteristic with either a smiley or sad face.
These characteristics are what your sim looks for or disapproves of in other sims and will determine if they have good or bad compatibility with them. Sims with bad compatibility will find it more difficult to start conversations and see a friendship blossom.
You can change your sim's Characteristics anytime by entering the CAS menu. You can do this by interacting with a mirror or dresser or by using edit mode cheats.
To check your compatibility with another sim, locate their icon in your contact list (bottom right corner) and click on them, then select 'Sim Profile'. If you have compatibility with them it will be listed here and will show up as a jigsaw puzzle piece on their profile picture.
