Don't miss the latest Pokemon GO event, Out to Play. This limited-time event is all about Routes, and we have all the information you need to know right here.
To incentivise us Trainers to get outdoors and check out the newly-introduced Routes, Niantic is hosting Out to Play. This Pokemon GO event emphasises Routes, but that's not the only thing to get into! This primer overviews all the limited-time additions to the game available only during Out to Play.

Pokemon GO Out to Play: Dates and times
Pokemon GO Out to Play starts September 27, 2023, at 10am local time. The event and all that comes with it will run for just under a week, concluding on October 2, 2023, at 8pm local time.
Pokemon GO Out to Play: Wild encounters
During Out to Play, Trainers can encounter a variety of wild Pokemon. Below is a list of the Pokemon that will appear more regularly in the wild during Out to Play:
- Psyduck
- Growlithe
- Onix
- Eevee
- Feebas
- Woobat
- Pawmi
- Arcanine
You won't encounter Shiny Pawmi or Arcanine, but the rest of these wild Pokemon have a small chance to surface in their Shiny variants!

Pokemon GO Out to Play: Eggs
It won't always happen, but hatching 2 km and 7 km Eggs during Out to Play will occasionally birth a Hisuian Growlithe. Better yet, it could be a Shiny Hisuian Growlithe! This is the first time that trainers from around the world can encounter Shiny Hisuian Growlithe in Pokemon GO.
Pokemon GO Out to Play: Event Bonuses
Trainers can benefit from the following Event Bonuses while Out to Play is active in Pokemon GO:
- Kecleon will show up more often at PokeStops
- Triple XP for finishing a Route
- Earn Buddy Candy quicker while exploring Routes with your Buddy Pokemon
- Learn how to get a Best Buddy in Pokemon GO
Pokemon GO Out to Play: Field Research task encounters
Completing event-themed Field Research tasks during Out to Play will award encounters with the following Pokemon:
- Hisuian Growlithe
- Hisuian Sneasel
- Hisuian Qwilfish
- Pawmi
Hisuian Growlithe that you meet via Out to Play Field Research tasks can be Shiny, but, unfortunately, you won't find any Shiny Hisuian Sneasel, Hisuian Qwilfish, or Pawmi.
Pokemon GO Out to Play: Free Timed Research
Out to Play offers free Timed Research that's all about Routes. Get out and explore your local surroundings to complete research tasks and earn useful items, Stardust, and additional encounters with Hisuian Growlithe.

Pokemon GO Out to Play: Paid Timed Research
Separate from the free Timed Research, Out to Play will include a paid Timed Research titled Tails of Adventure. For just $2 USD or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency, you can participate in this event-exclusive Timed Research.
Completing the research tasks tied to Tails of Adventure will net you six encounters with Hisuian Growlithe, five encounters with Growlithe, two Incubators, and one Super Incubator.
If you decide to purchase and partake in this paid Timed Research, keep in mind that you only have until October 2, 2023, at 8pm local time to complete all the research tasks and claim the corresponding rewards.
Pokemon GO Out to Play: PokeStop Showcases
If you catch a particularly unique Growlithe or Hisuian Growlithe during Out to Play, you can show it off at select PokeStops in Showcases.

Pokemon GO Out to Play: Shop bundles and cosmetics
The Out to Play event will introduce some new goods to the in-game shop, including a Voyager Box for 1,990 PokeCoins. The Voyager Box contains ten Super Incubators, twelve Incubators, and two Poffins. And if you're into cosmetics, you can grab the Hisuian Growlithe Wig for 200 PokeCoins and stick it on your avatar!
The in-game shop isn't the only place you can purchase new Pokemon GO wares. Visit the Pokemon GO Web Store to buy the Ultra Hatch Box and load up on Super Incubators.
