Alan Wake has made his way into The Fog of Dead by Daylight, so we’ve rounded up our picks for some of the best Perk builds that you should be running on him to help you survive in the game.

Joining the likes of Ellen Ripley and Nicolas Cage, Alan Wake, fresh from the success of his own game (and one of our games of the year in 2023) is bound to shine a light in the dark as he takes on some of the most malevolent Killers.

Best Perk builds for Alan Wake in DbD

Below you’ll find builds that complement each of Alan Wake’s unique Perks in DbD. These include some of the best Survivor Perks that may even counteract some of the best Perks that the Killers bring.

Champion of Light build

What would Alan Wake be without his trusty flashlight? Well, Champion of Light puts that at the forefront and gives the item that all Killers fear a huge boost. Smash Hit is used here, but it could easily be swapped out with Chemical Trap or Background Player for some more unique combinations.

Alan Wake

While you are holding a flashlight, this Perk activates. When you are shining a flashlight, you have 50% Haste. When you successfully blind the Killer, they also gain 20% Hindered for 6 seconds. This effect cannot stack with itself. Then, this Perk goes into cooldown for up to 60 seconds.

Fixated

You can see your scratch marks at all times. You walk 20% faster.

Residual Manifest

Haddie Kaur

After a successful Killer Blind action, the Killer is affected by the Blindness status effect for 30 seconds.

This Perk grants the ability to rummage through an opened chest once per trial and will guarantee a basic Flashlight.

Smash Hit

Yun-Jin Lee

After stunning the Killer with a pallet, break into a sprint at 150% of your normal running speed for 4 seconds. Causes the Exhausted status effect for 20 seconds, This Perk cannot be used while Exhausted.

Deadline build

We’ve all been there, a tight deadline can be a thing of terror. However, Alan Wake takes this pressure and runs with it with his Deadline Perk, which enhances the power of Skill Checks.

This Perk activates when you are injured. Skill Checks appear up to 10% more frequently when repairing or healing and appear in random places. The penalty for missing skills checks is reduced by 50%.

Autodidact

You start the trial with a -25% progress penalty for Skill Checks to heal Survivors. For every successful Skill Check, while healing a Survivor, you receive a token up to a maximum of 5 tokens. Each token grants you a +15% progress bonus.  

Fogwise

Hitting a Great Skill Check while repairing a Generator reveals the Killer’s aura to you for 6 seconds.

Hyperfocus

After hitting a great Skill Check while repairing or healing, this Perk gains 1 token, up to 6 tokens. Each token increases the chance of a Skill Check trigger by 4%, the Skill Check cursor speed by 4% and the bonus progression for great Skill Checks by 30% of its base value. The Perk loses all tokens in case of normal Skill Check successes, fails or if the action is stopped by any means.

Boon: Illumination build

A Boon is a safe space for all, and creating a light in The Fog will always bring comfort and opportunity, especially with Illumination helping Survivors to get their bearings.

Press and hold the Active Ability Button 1 near a Dull or Hex Totem to bless it and create a Boon Totem. Survivors inside your Boon Totem’s range see the aura of all chests and Generators in blue. If you have lit a Boon Totem, you cleanse or bless Totems up to 10% faster.

Ace in the Hole

When retrieving an item from a chest, there is a 100% chance that a very rare (or lower) add-on will be attached to it. 50% chance of finding an add-on of uncommon rarity (or lower) When escaping, keep any add-ons your item has.

Appraisal

Start the trial with 3 tokens. When a chest has already been opened, consume a token to rummage through it for an item. Rummaging can only be performed once per chest. You can rummage through chests 80% faster.

Boon: Dark Theory

Press and hold the Active Ability Button 1 near a Dull or Hex Totem to bless it and create a Boon Totem. Survivors inside your Boon Totem’s range gain a 2% Haste status effect. This effect lingers after leaving the Boon’s range.

What are Alan Wake’s unique Perks in Dead by Daylight?

Like all characters in Dead by Daylight, Alan Wake comes with three unique Perks, including a brand new Boon Perk that is shown above. By upgrading him using Bloodpoints (a few DbD codes can help you out there) these Perks can be taught to other Survivors.
