Twitch streamer Imane "Pokimane" Anys is regularly facing questions over her ethnicity. But, what is her racial background?

As one of Twitch's leading ladies, Pokimane has developed one of the most popular channels on the Amazon-owned platform and helped pave the way for aspiring female content creators in the male-dominated field. However, she is regularly being questioned about her ethnicity despite putting it out the information on numerous occasions.

What is Pokimane's ethnicity? Does she have any Asian ancestry? And why is she constantly having to clap back at trolls over her natural hair?

What Is Pokimane's Ethnicity?

Pokimane has stated on many occasions that she is Canadian-Moroccan.

Having been born in Morocco, her family then moved to Canada when she was four years old. The 25-year-old tends to keep any mention of her family life private, but she previously claimed in a WIRED interview that her parents were academics.

Pokimane Does A DNA Test

Pokimane has always proudly stated that the majority of her heritage was West African. However, she is always facing questions from fans speculating whether she has any East Asian ancestry. So, in 2019, Pokimane decided to find out once and for all and took a DNA test that would provide a full breakdown of her racial heritage.

Unsurprisingly, the test revealed that she is 85% North African and Arabian and 10% European, particularly from Spanish and Portuguese regions. However, she the results showed that has just over 1% West Asian and 0.4% East Asian ancestry, much to her dismay.

Pokimane Claps Back At Haters Over Her Natural Hair

In general, Pokimane tends to style her hair for her livestreams. However, on occasions, she's shown off her naturally curly locks to her fans, much to their delight. However, she has previously admitted that she is fairly self-conscious about her hair given the amount of hate she has received from trolls who accuse her of 'blackfacing.'

During her stream on March 27, Pokimane found herself once again having to clap back against her trolls over her natural hair. After one viewer in her chat said that her curls didn't "look good", Pokimane responded: "You know, if you feel that way, you should take it up with God, bro. You should tell him, 'You shouldn’t have made her this way,' and maybe he'll have some arguments for you. But for me, b*tch, I just look like this. I take a shower, and this is how I look, so yeah. Don't tell me. Take it up with him. Do a little prayer. Talk to God, not me!"

Despite all of her success, Pokimane is still having to face offensive comments from trolls over her natural looks, if not about her hair then her make-up free selfie. However, she always has the best words to clap back right at them and she hasn't let it stopped her from becoming one of the most successful content creators in the world.
