HasanAbi Defends Pokimane Following 'Blackfacing' Accusations
Being in the public eye, Twitch streamers often find themselves at the centre of derogatory comments from trolls. Sometimes a streamer's comments made during a live video can land them in some serious hot water.
These content creators can often find themselves in the firing line from fans making some worrying accusations in chats, some well-founded and others, not so much.
Left-wing activist and streamer Hasan "HasanAbi" Piker has now come forward to defend his peer, Imane 'Pokimane' Anys, following accusations from his fans that she was 'blackfacing' during one of her streams. In his rant, HasanAbi called out the accusers and encouraged them to get their facts straight before making such allegations.
What Were The Accusations Made Against Pokimane?
On December 7, Pokimane was hosting a live stream called 'curly big headed baby streams video games' where she reacted to a host of topics and sites including the LivestreamFail Reddit page. During the stream, her chat was filled with fans complimenting the streamer for showing off her naturally curly locks, which is unusual as we normally see Pokimane with her hair straightened or curled.
Her fellow streamer HasanAbi then reacted to the video during one of his own streams when a fan in his chat asked: "Why is Poki blackfacing?". Assuming that the fan was referring to Pokimane's rarely seen curls, HasanAbi said: "Are you f*cking insane? That's her natural hair, dude. What the f*ck? Guys, she's literally Moroccan, are you f*cking stupid?." Quelling the accusations, HasanAbi concluded: "That is her natural f*cking her you psycho, what a psychotic f*cking take."
Has Pokimane Reacted To The 'Blackface' Accusations?
As a left-wing activist, HasanAbi hasn't shied away from expressing his views, as demonstrated when he spoke out against Rachel "Valkyrae" Hofstetter's controversial skincare range. However, Pokimane isn't afraid to stand up for her beliefs, also. For example, not only has she clapped back at sexist subs in the past, but she has spoken out about the problems that female VALORANT players face in the game.
As for her hair, Pokimane has previously expressed her "insecurity" over her mass of tight curls. In November 2021, Pokimane shared a selfie of her hair in its natural state and received a plethora of compliments from her fans and fellows, including Leslie "Fuslie" Fu and Tina "TinaKitten". Following all the love, Pokimane said: "My natural hair has always been an insecurity of mine so i really appreciate all the love".
