Everything you need to know about the Chaos Theory Collection Event.
Starting March 9, Kings Canyon is about to turn toxic. Water Treatment is no more, and the Apex Legends POI has been given a Caustic makeover, transforming it into Caustic Treatment, a mousetrap full of high-tier loot, and plenty of danger.
Caustic Town Takeover – Caustic Treatment
Experimenting with life and death (as always), Caustic requires “test subjects” to drain toxic liquid from inside the facility, which coincidentally grants access to four gold items – if you’re quick enough.
Unfortunately, this has meant another much-loved location has had to be moved, as the pollution from Caustic Treatment wasn’t really a “party atmosphere”, so Mirage Voyage has said "bon voyage", for the time being.
RING FURY ESCALATION TAKEOVER
Along with a revamped location to explore, the Chaos Theory event brings with it a brand-new LTM, taking over the regular Play Apex playlist (both Duos and Trios) for the two-week duration of the event.
Ring Fury follows all the normal rules of Apex, with one key difference – each round, one or more ‘Ring Flares’ will appear on the map within the current ring. Ring Flare pockets slowly expand, dealing equal damage to the current ring, but thankfully come with a short warning before they appear.
Try to steer clear of Ring Flares, but failing that, pop a Heat Shield.
Ring Fury is an escalation takeover, meaning every few days, the playlist will become more and more difficult as time goes on.
Chaos Theory Collection Event Items and Rewards
As with all Apex Legends Collection Events, there are exclusive items to be earned along the rewards track.
Fulfilling challenges during the event and earning points will grant you a number of Chaos Theory exclusive event items, including Legend skins, weapon skins, and other cosmetics.
There are 1000 points up for grabs each day, and grant Battle Pass XP too.
Earning the maximum 5000 points will grant you all of the items below.
Collecting all 24 exclusive event items (via Event Packs) will unlock the Bangalore Heirloom set, which includes the melee weapon – Pilot’s knife.
After the event ends, the Bangalore Heirloom will become available via heirloom crafting.
Caustic Gets A Nerf
So, Caustic got his very own town, but at what cost?
The patch notes for the Chaos Theory Collection Event, unfortunately, came with some bad news for gas-boy, in the form of a few nerfs.
Caustic’s Ultimate Nox Gas Grenade cooldown has increased by a full minute – up to 3.5 minutes, and his Nox Gas canisters no long ramp up damage, and are now at a flat rate of 5HP per tick.
As the devs explain, Caustic was possibly “too oppressive” in many scenarios, therefore the damage decrease has been implemented, and will be looked at over the next few weeks to ensure balance.
The Apex Legends Chaos Theory Collection Event runs from March 9 to March 23, 2021.
