Banners are how you unlock new characters and light cones in the game, but there is more to it than that. Honkai: Star Rail 1.0 Standard Warp Banner
Click to enlargeThe Standard Warp Banner is a consistently available banner, one that players can always pull from. It will be updated as time goes on, and will always be a source of more characters and Light Cones. At the Standard Warp Banner, you are always guaranteed a 4-star pull every ten warps, and a 5-star pull every ninety warps.
To translate that into broader terms, you can use Warp Tickets which you purchase with either in-game or real currency to pull from a banner, which grants a random reward from a specific pool. The Standard Warp Banner is a permanent pool of characters and Light Cones that you can draw from.

Honkai: Star Rail 1.0 Beginner Warp Banner
Click to enlargeThe Beginner Warp Banner is a way for players to get started with the game and with using banners. It comes with a 20% discount, meaning players can get 10 pulls for 8 Warp Tickets.
Pulls on this banner are limited to fifty, with at least one 4-star character guaranteed every ten pulls, and one 5-star character guaranteed in fifty pulls. This banner will be available until May 10.

Honkai: Star Rail 1.0 Event Warps
Click to enlargeThere are two ongoing Event Warps from the launch of Honkai: Star Rail. Butterfly on Swordtip is the current Character Event Warp, and Brilliant Fixation is the Light Cone Event Warp.
Pulling from each of these will get you new characters and new Light Cones, respectively. These events will be available until May 10.
