The main function of Violetgrass is to be used in certain cooking recipes to provide buffs to the player. These recipes are:

  • Black-Back Perch Stew - restores either 26, 28 or 30% of max HP depending on the quality of the dish. Can also continuously regenerate health for 30 seconds at a rate of 450, 620 or 790 HP every 5 seconds.
  • Bountiful Year - Increases the ATK (attack base) of the entire party by either 224, 272 or 320 points, and chance for critical hits by 6, 8 or 10% for 300 seconds depending on the quality of the dish.
  • Stone Harbor Delicacies – Can increase the party’s critical rate by either 6, 9 or 12% for 300 seconds, depending on the quality of the cooked dish.
  • Wanmin Restaurant's Boiled Fish – Can restore a substantial 34% of HP for the character that consumes the dish. The dish can then regenerate health for 30 seconds at a rate of 980 HP for every 5 seconds.

Alternatively, Violetgrass is also a material used for certain characters to level up their Ascension. Ascension occurs when a character surpasses their max levels and enters bonus levels, which uses different materials to their standard level-up requirements. The characters that require Violetgrass for Ascension are Qigi and Xinyan.

  • Before getting to Ascension levels, Xinyan needs gold to upgrade her Talent abilities. To learn more about Gold in Genshin Impact and how to get it, read our guide on Genshin Impact Gold.

Genshin Impact Violetgrass: Where To Find It

Violetgrass is a flower-like material found throughout the wild lands of Liyue (a city that is unlocked after completion of ‘The Outlander Who Caught the Wind’ Archon Quest). The material can easily be spotted due to its bright purple colouring against the cliffs of Liyue.

Mengmeng is an NPC who will also gift the player 5 Violetgrass after speaking to them in Dihua Marsh in Liyue (south of Stone Gate). Violetgrass may also appear in certain NPC merchant’s stalls every three days. These merchants are: Herbalist Gui located in Liyue Harbour and Verr Goldet at the Wangshu Inn at Dihua Marsh.
