Despite the huge amount of weapons in Fortnite you can make use of during a match, there aren't many that are officially classified as melee weapons, and for players looking to complete relevant challenges, it can be hard to know what to use.

The game is constantly cycling in and out content such as weapons, so what was freely available in a previous chapter or season may no longer be there for you to use. So, if you need to know what's currently classified as a melee weapon in Fortnite, look no further.

What's classed as a melee weapon?

As of writing this during Chapter 5 Season 2, there are two melee weapons you can use in Fortnite: your harvesting tool (or pickaxe) and the Kinetic Blade

Where to get melee weapons?

You'll always have a pickaxe equipped, though the skin is dependent on what you have it set to, so you'll always have at least one melee weapon you can use when necessary.

The Kinetic Blade, on the other hand, is a melee weapon that can only be looted during a match, either from a chest or as ground loot in some areas. It's mostly random where you can find it, but I had lots of luck in Mega City in particular.

The Kinetic Blade is also guaranteed to spawn northwest of Mega City at the location of CRZ-8, but this can often be contested early on, especially with players trying to complete melee challenges.

It's still worth going for due to its special knockback capabilities and the dash you can use to travel some distance.
