It might've been a full decade since we first stepped into Tamriel for Skyrim, but with the fifth chapter in The Elder Scrolls series being largely kept alive by memes and the modding community, there still a lot of love for the fantasy favourite. By now, you'd think we'd come up with every way to explore Skyrim - well, you'd be wrong.

Over the years, we've seen seemingly impossible challenges like no killing, only using dragon shouts, and completing the main story with just a fishing rod. If you've ever imagined yourself as something of a Professor Xavier and fancy joining the X-Men, how about controlling Skyrim with your mind?

How Can You Control Skyrim With Your Mind?

Over on Nexus Mods, the Real Virtual Magic mod is one of the unusual we've seen. The idea of controlling Skyrim with your mind is a baffling concept, but there we go. Here, you'll need a Muse 2 or Muse S meditation device and BLED112 Bluetooth dongle.

Effectively, you use meditation to cast spells out there in Tamriel. We haven't tried it for ourselves, but either way, it sounds pretty cool. The description reads, "You now actually need to learn magic. You, the player, need to learn to focus and be able to channel your mental power into the
game!"

The mod is the work of a neuroscientist working in the Biological Psychology and Neuroergonomics department at the Technische Universität Berlin. Combining their research into electroencephalography (EEG) in VR and their love of Skyrim VR means the mod was born.

"The mod in its current state will completely replace the magicka system and allow you to cast spells limitless," says the mod page. "However, the damage you do with these spells will be dependent on your own mental powers, so if your mental power is at 0 you won't do damage, and if it is full, you will do double damage.

"This is just a super early alpha version to get the mod out there and it is definitely subject to change. The gameplay options depend a lot on how well the BCI device works and this will have to be investigated."

What's Going On With Skyrim Right Now?

Sadly, Skyrim VR has never hit the mainstream appeal of the main game. VR games are becoming more popular by the day, and with calls for someone to officially put Resident Evil Village in VR, it's an emerging genre. As for Skyrim, Bethesda is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition that adds much more than just fishing

Of course, the conversation has turned to what comes next. With Bethesda's parent company being bought by Microsoft, the writing was already on the wall for The Elder Scrolls 6. We've known for a while that the game is on the way, however, those at the top have confirmed it's a long way off. The latest development comes from Phil Spencer himself, with the Xbox boss seemingly confirming The Elder Scrolls 6 will be an Xbox exclusive. And just like that, the console war might've been won by Microsoft.
