Aren't we all annoyed by the sheer barrage of information about the new best superfood we should all be adding to our diets for nigh immortality that is absolutely science-backed (source: Dude, just trust me)?

No such subjectivity exists in video games as the developers of these universes place some food at the very top of their food pyramid and it's no different in Skyrim. The ambrosia only really gods should be able to dine on but was made readily accessible for us in our favourite RPG is none other than the delicious Garlic Bread.

How to craft Garlic Bread in Skyrim

Apparently, even among seasoned players with thousands of hours of playtime, Garlic Bread isn't a widely known recipe and yet its features are incredibly useful and beat their alternatives handily. At a weight of only 0.1 and rather cheap and attainable ingredients, Garlic Bread also restores a point of health but most importantly cures all diseases

This makes it not only much more affordable than a Potion of Cure Disease, but it is also five times lighter and therefore much easier to carry around in large quantities.

It's rather easy to craft too. Throwing Garlic, Butter, and Bread into an oven will give you two Garlic Bread each time and all of those three resources are easy to purchase in various places across Skyrim. If you are scratching your head, asking yourself if baking has always been a thing in Skyrim, it was indeed introduced at a later point and only with the Hearthfire DLC.

Why is Garlic Bread so useful Skyrim?

That said, chances are you've been playing the game with the DLC active if you've purchased any of the newer versions on the various platforms the game has launched on. One drawback of Garlic Bread is that you need to unlock the ability to use an oven first, which requires you to purchase a homestead and also build a kitchen after.

This takes a fair amount of time and money to accomplish, but should probably be part of your annual walkthrough in the first place...? Even if we aren't judging, that's just common decency, really. Garlic Bread is also an excellent recipe to get into as it's one of the only oven recipes that don't require a sack of flour - which is much more annoying to carry around in large quantities.

Perhaps as a minor public service announcement, while it doesn't hurt your vampire to consume it, it also doesn't make much sense to bake those up in the first place as they are already immune to diseases.

As you reluctantly reinstall Bethesda's masterpiece for the octillionth time, why not give Garlic Bread a shot during the winter break? At least with the video game version of the good stuff, it won't hurt your weight.
