Now that we're well and truly immersed in the Sanctuary, fans are starting the seemingly endless wait for seasonal content to make its way to Diablo 4. In all fairness, it's a pretty good way of keeping content rolling out. If it's worked so well for Fortnite, who's to say that it can't work for the top-down demon-slaying AAA critical hitmaker?
The potential of a new Diablo 4 season is exciting to many, getting them pretty hyped for whatever kit and cosmetics could be coming their way. But there's bad news from the Diablo 4 Battle Pass that is leaving players seething.
You need a new character to start Diablo IV's battle pass
Players have already sunk hundreds of hours into Diablo 4, bolstering their characters and making them as perfect as they can be in time for the arrival of the first official season of the game. But, it turns out that those characters have become all but useless.
It has been revealed that if you want to experience all that the Diablo 4 Battle Pass has to offer, you will need to create an entirely new character. "To take part in the seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey and battle pass, you will need to create a new seasonal character," says series creator Rod Fergusson in a tweet.
"Playing campaign with seasonal character (if you so desire or need to finish) will also progress the season journey and battle pass." It's a pretty bleak indication that the characters we've already formed bonds with - including those beyond Hardcore level 100 - are all but worthless when it comes to garnering items in the Battle Pass.
Although Diablo Immortal had the same caveat of locking your character down like this, it hasn't stopped Diablo 4 fans from being rightly p*ssed.
Fans react to new character requirements in Diablo IV
Fans have taken to the internet to express their frustrations with the idea that their beloved Sorcerers and Necromancers can't be used in the upcoming seasonal content.
One raged, "I'll be honest. Since I paid for the 1st season I'll make a new character but after that I'm done. Re-leveling off the same content with some new and small twists isn't my idea of fun to rinse and repeat. But I guess time will tell how things go."
Another fumed, "Gotta be honest- as a new player, I don't see myself grinding like this again. If I have to start from scratch for S1 I'm likely done maining Diablo. And I know there's a ton of people in the same boat. I care about my current character. I'd just say f*ck it if I lost him."
Though many have pointed out that this is a practice that Diablo has followed before, it's still a massive bummer for new and casual players. Please don't make me leave Harondo the Sorcerer in the dust. He doesn't deserve that.
