The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Poke Portal is a menu feature that handles much of the game's online features. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet bring back many of the features of previous Pokemon games, as well as adding some new ones. Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Poke Portal: Multiplayer
Click to enlargeOne of the main functions of the Poke Portal is to let you use the multiplayer features that the game has. First and foremost, you have Union Circle. This is the feature that allows you to play the game together with friends. You can form your own group, or your friend's group by inputting their Link Code.
The other multiplayer modes include Tera Raid Battles and Battle Stadium. Tera Raid Battles are those glowing crystals you see throughout the region, interacting with one will start a battle with a powerful Terastalized Pokemon. Using the Tera Raid Battle feature in the Poke Portal will allow you to join other players, either by joining friends or by joining random players.
Battle Stadium is, as you might expect from the name, where you go to battle against other players online. Currently, you can engage in Casual Battles. Ranked Battles will become available in December and Online Competitions will be added early next year. There is also the Link Battle feature that allows you to battle directly with friends or others nearby.

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Poke Portal: Trading And Mystery Gift
Click to enlargeThe other features of the Poke Portal involve trading and the Mystery Gift system. Trading is fairly straightforward. There are two options, Link Trade and Surprise Trade. Link Trade is your means of trading with a friend or other players provided you use the same Link Code. The Link Code is an 8-digit code that you can set yourself, and give to another player to allow you to trade Pokemon.
Surprise Trade is a popular feature of previous games that returns here. It is as it sounds, you trade one of your Pokemon for a surprise Pokemon in return. All you do is choose a Pokemon to trade, then wait to be linked with another player. Once this is done, you can check to see which Pokemon you received.
Finally, Mystery Gift can be found in the Poke Portal. It is the same feature it has generally always been, a means by which you can receive gifts either over the internet or with a code. This is used for special events, during which special Pokemon are given away. There are also plenty of regular gifts given out through Mystery Gift, so be sure to check it often.
