Best moveset for Decidueye in Pokemon GO & is it any good?
Rowlet Community Day introduces powerful new moves to Decidueye, so learn its best moveset and if these changes make the Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon any good in PvP and PvE.
Rowlet Community Day is the first major Pokemon GO event of 2024, and it brings with it tweaks to Decidueye including two new moves: Frenzy Plant and Spirit Shackle.
Trainers will no doubt be wondering if this Gen VII starter Pokemon can compete with other fan favourites in Trainer Battles and Raids. So, let's review the changes to Decidueye and the best moveset for this beloved Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon.
Best moveset for Decidueye in Pokemon GO
When it comes to the best moveset for Decidueye, Leafage and Frenzy Plant are far and away the best Fast Move and Charged Move. From there, you can add on Brave Bird or Spirit Shackle as a secondary Charged Move if you can afford it.
If you're chasing STAB damage in PvP Battles, Razor Leaf is a serviceable Fast Move, but overall, Leafage is a more balanced attack, generating more Energy while dealing only slightly less Damage. Outside of PvE, other Fast Moves accessible to Decidueye are simply subpar.
As for Decidueye's Charged Moves, Frenzy Plant is a must-have in both PvP and PvE. Frenzy Plant is among the most powerful Grass-type Charged Moves in Pokemon GO and allows Decidueye to compete with some of the top-ranking Pokemon in the Great, Ultra, and Master Leagues.
Frenzy Plant pairs well with both Brave Bird and Spirit Shackle. Generally, Brave Bird has the edge because it provides much-needed Flying-type coverage, but Spirit Shackle is situationally viable as a bait attack or if you plan to use Decidueye as a lead or a closer in PvP.
All moves Decidueye can learn in Pokemon GO
Decidueye can learn a variety of different moves, including four Fast Moves and five Charged Moves. Below are all the moves Decidueye has access to in Pokemon GO:
Fast Moves
- Leafage
- Astonish
- Magical Leaf
- Razor Leaf
Charged Moves
- Frenzy Plant
- Brave Bird
- Spirit Shackle
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Sneak
Aside from Frenzy Plant, all of these attacks can be taught by using a Fast TM or Charged TM.
The only way to get a Decidueye that knows Frenzy Plant is to evolve a Dartrix between 2PM and 10PM local time on Rowlet Community Day (January 6, 2024) or to use a rare Elite Charged TM.
Is Decidueye any good?
While the addition of Frenzy Plant to Decidueye does make this Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon more desirable, there are still plenty of better options in both PvP and PvE. Trevenant, another Grass/Ghost-type Pokemon, is a staple of the PvP meta and is superior to Decidueye in almost every way.
Decidueye's one saving grace is that it's an excellent counter to Medicham, Azumarill, Vigoroth, and Lanturn, some of the most popular Pokemon in the Great League. In most other situations, though, it's not worth benching Trevenant and other stronger Grass-type attackers for Decidueye.
If you don't already have a worthy Trevenant, use Rowlet Community Day as an opportunity to get a Decidueye with high IVs that can fill its role for the time being. But if you're already using Trevenant, don't lose any sleep over acquiring a top Decidueye - even one that knows Frenzy Plant.
That's everything you need to know about the new-and-improved Decidueye. Check out our Pokemon GO homepage for more Pokemon GO guides like the Spotlight Hour schedule and all the upcoming events.
