Highlights:

  • You'll need the Rod of Fishing in order to catch fish
  • Fishing pools can be found at random in rooms as you progress

Fishing isn't just a relaxing pastime in the Underworld, as it's also a fantastic way to increase your stocks in Hades 2 and earn some more handy items.

There are quite a few steps you'll need to take before you can get your hands on your very own rod in-game though - and that does, unfortunately, mean beating some tough bosses, unlocking a few Incantations, and peeking your head into unfamiliar lands.

To fish, you'll first need to unlock and equip the Rod of Fishing and then find a suitable pool of water, which can randomly spawn in any Encounters Room.

If you have the 'Reagent Sensing' Incantation unlocked then you should be made aware of the presence of fishing pools once you clear any Encounter, but otherwise, you're best just walking up to larger bodies of water and checking to see if the 'Fish' prompt is there.

You'll need to complete a short mini-game to reel the fish in, but this largely involves pressing the right buttons at the right time - much like the Tablet of Peace.

Once you've caught some fish they can be exchanged for Bones at the Wretched Broker - providing you've unlocked the 'Summoning of Mercantile Fortune' Incantation, which you can then use to unlock other items like Ashes, Nectar, and more.

How to unlock the Rod of Fishing

You'll need 1x Bronze and 2x Fate Fabric to unlock the Rod of Fishing, and you'll also need to have activated the 'Night's Craftwork' Incantation to access Tools in the first place.

Once you've unlocked the Rod, all you need to do then is walk up to it and activate it, as you can only have one Tool equipped at any point in time.

The easiest way to get Fate Fabric is through the Wretched Broker, who sells the item for 60 Bones each. It can also be a reward for completing certain quests in the Fated List, like 'Shadow of Death' and 'Witch of the Crossroads', which give ten and one Fate Fabric respectively.

Bronze is a little harder to get your hands on though, as it can only be obtained through mining on the surface. This means that you'll need to activate the 'Permeation of Witching-Wards' Incantation, allowing you to pass through the closed Ward and reach the surface, and then survive long enough to mine it.

Make sure that you've got the Crescent Pick activated before you head up, and always be on the hunt for Bronze rocks as you won't have too much time on your hands, especially at the beginning.
