You may want to learn the frozen money glitch in GTA Online, as it allows you to purposefully break the game and purchase things without spending any money in the online mode.

GTA Online lets players explore Los Santos in multiplayer sessions, but earning lots of money can take a long time. This means you may want to utilise glitches, and even though many have been patched over the last decade, new ones seem to pop up all the time.

We can't guarantee this frozen money glitch for GTA Online will work forever, but it does allow you to purchase as many cars as you want without losing any money at all. So, read our full walkthrough for performing the glitch below.

There are many versions of the frozen money glitch in GTA Online, but we're covering a recent version that still seems to work as of January 26, 2023. There are a fair few steps to it and some of them seem nonsensical, but it does work, so follow along carefully.

  1. Go to a garage of yours in GTA Online, and set your spawn location to that place.
  2. Change a piece of your outfit to trigger an autosave.
  3. Use your phone and purchase any vehicle that you want (with the exception of Pegasus vehicles). However, do not leave the screen where it says the vehicle has been!
  4. Disconnect your internet while still on the phone, which should kick you off to GTA Online single player.
  5. Once the single player mode has loaded, head to the interaction menu and select 'Director Mode'.
  6. In the Director Mode, select 'Actors', then 'Animals', and then pick a bird.
  7. Once you have control of the bird, begin flying it down a road until you see a large vehicle like a truck. Fly the bird head first toward the truck, and just before you impact it, switch back to one of the story characters and confirm your exit from Director Mode. It's important that you don't let the bird die before exiting.
  8. If you did the previous step correctly, then you should have a black loading screen, and then it will load in and say 'Wasted'.
  9. You will then get an infinite black loading screen. To exit this, use the touchpad on a Dualshock controller, press up on the d-pad, and then confirm to enter Director Mode again. If you use an Xbox controller, press the button to change the camera view instead.
  10. When you're back in Director Mode, select 'Actors', 'Beach Bums', and then choose the Boardwalker character. You should then spawn where you originally took control of the bird.
  11. Bring up the interaction menu again, and then exit Director Mode.
  12. Once you're out of Director Mode again, go to the menu, and set up an invite-only online session.
  13. You should then load into the session, spawning you in the garage you selected as your spawn point earlier. The car or cars you purchased should now be here, and no money will have been taken from your account if you did everything correctly.

The process is quite long and there are a few stages where you can fail, but it's a consistent way to get vehicles for free in GTA Online.

That's all for our walkthrough of the frozen money glitch in GTA Online, and now you know a method of obtaining cars for free, allowing you to sell them to make more money.

We also have the full GTA Online Criminal Enterprise cars list, so you have some good choices to try the glitch with.
