Many fans of GTA Online will be wondering if there is crossplay or cross-platform progression, and we've got everything you need to know if you play on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The game has been out for ten years now, spanning across three different console generations and still has millions of people playing the game. By spanning across multiple console generations, it does beg the question if the game has features like crossplay and cross-progression because they didn’t exist when it was first released.

GTA Online has grown continuously from when it first launched, introducing heists, businesses, clubs and so much more. What once was about robbing shops and driving fast cars through Los Santos is now about running guns and building a criminal empire.

Thankfully we've got everything you need to know if you're looking to keep your items when migrating consoles, so continue reading to find out whether or not GTA Online supports crossplay and cross-platform progression.

Unfortunately, at this current point in time GTA Online does not support crossplay, meaning that you won't be able to play with your friends if they are on another platform.

This is partly because of just how old the game is with a variety of different versions released over the years. There is, on consoles anyway, a PS3, PS4 and PS5 version of the game that all have differences. Crossplay would be a near-impossible feat - so you can only play with people on the same platform as you

GTA Online does support a form of cross-platform progression, but it isn’t seamless and only under the right conditions.

Essentially, you can migrate your GTA Online save to another console when upgrading to the PS5/Xbox Series X|S edition, but this is a one-time transfer. Once you have done it once you can’t do it again, and your progress will be wiped from the previous edition of the game you’re transferring from.

You can also only transfer your data between the same console brand, so you won’t be able to switch from Xbox One to PS5.

Here is everything you need to know if you're looking to transfer GTA Online saves between old and current generation consoles:

  • Open GTA Online, pause the game, and then head to the ‘Game’ tab
  • Now Select ‘upload save game’
  • Boot up GTA Online on your next-gen console and login
  • Make sure the new GTA Online is linked to your Rockstar Social Club account
  • When logging in you can select your previously uploaded character

If the process has worked then you should be good to go, but if there is no character there then make sure to go back over the steps above to see if you missed any steps.

That is all there is to know about whether or not you can transfer your progress in GTA Online, as well as if the game supports crossplay, so hopefully you'll be able to bring your new items over now.
