Dead Space Remake: How To Get The Secret Ending

One of the key differences between the original Dead Space and the 2023 remake is the inclusion of a secret alternate ending. Unlocking this Dead Space ending can be tricky though, as it requires finding 12 Marker Fragment collectables throughout the Ishimura on new game +. Read here as we go through all Marker Fragment locations in the Dead Space remake and set you up to get that elusive ending.

Dead Space Remake: All Marker Fragment Locations

The Marker Fragments are scattered across the Ishimura and will require a full new game + playthrough to acquire them. They resemble a smaller prop version of the Marker statue and will glow a faint purple hue when you are near them. They can be well hidden, however, so stick around to see all 12 locations. All locations listed below are in the order of chapters the markers appear in.

Marker Fragment One

During Chapter 1: New Arrivals you'll need to get the Data Board as part of the quest to fix the tram service. Within the Hanger-Cargo-Tram Control, the Data Board is on a table, the Marker Fragment is on the bookshelf to the right of the table. Punch the bookshelf to clear the books and grab the fragment.

Marker Fragment Two

Marker Fragment 2 requires access to the medical wing during chapter 2. It is within Dr T. Kyne’s office on Medical Floor 1 (one of the offices off the main lab area). The Marker is in a secret room behind the bookshelf in the office. To get it, simply use the Kinesis Module on the bookshelf in this room to slide it across and reveal the hidden room. Inside, the Marker Fragment is on a desk.

Marker Fragment Three

This Marker Fragment is located on floor three of Engineering, in the Engine Room. From the power node in the wall, (under the Power Sub-Station-B sign), head around the left-side corner. The Marker will be here.

Marker Fragment Four

This fragment is on the floor of the Break Room on the first floor of the Bridge.  You'll come across this room during the quest to repower the ADS Cannons. The Break Room is within Electrical Systems and contains the shrine to the Marker. The Marker Fragment is next to the shrine on the floor.

This Marker Fragment is on the desk in Dr Mercer's office. The office is within the medical section of the ship, directly right from the doorway into the morgue (floor four). You should gain access to the office during the 'Lift The Lockdown' questline.

This fragment is in the Cryogenics section (floor four of the medical wing where you will collect the Liquid Nitrogen). It is placed on top of the central cryo chamber which is used to freeze the Hunter in the boss fight. You'll need to use the Kinesis Module to get it down.

Marker Fragment Seven

This one is within the Hydroponics section of the Ishimura, floor four in the East Grow Chamber. The Marker Fragment is inside a mass of corruption across the walkway, opposite Wheezer number 6. So, you'll need to use your Kinesis Module to bring it towards you.

Marker Fragment Eight

This Marker Fragment is within the Mineral Samples Room on floor five of mining. It is located on a shelf left of the plush dinosaur and will require you to have security clearance level three to access the room.

Marker Fragment Nine

Number nine is located on floor two of the Communications Hub. It will be floating within some corruption in the room, left of the main Communications Control menu. You can use the Kinesis Module to bring it closer to you and pick it up.

Marker Fragment number ten is located on floor three of the Crew Quarters, on a desk within the Deluxe Quarter Bunk Room. You'll need to restore power to the circuit breaker (left of the Deluxe Bathrooms) and then reroute the power to the Deluxe Quarter rooms. The power node you'll need to do so is in the Quiet Bunks room with the laughing crew member.

This fragment is also within the Crew Quarters on floor three and is placed within the Chief Steward's office on a desk to the left of the entrance.

The last Marker Fragment is within the Cargo Bay on the first floor in the Hangar-Cargo-Tram Control. The fragment is on some shelving in the bottom-right of the map.

Now you have all 12 of the Marker Fragments, turn the quest in by placing them on the table in Captain B. Matheus’ Quarters. This is on floor three of the Crew Quarters within the Executive Quarters wing. You'll know you've been successful if you hear a sound effect trigger upon placing them and when the candles momentarily blow out. Now, feel free to finish the last quests and you should see the secret alternative ending.
