Who's that Pokemon? After 27 years of those cute critters, who'd have thought Game Freak's Nintendo-exclusive franchise would become the marketing giant it is? While we can all agree Pokemon is great, it's less easy to agree on your favourite Pocket Monster.

From the first time Red stepped out into Pallet Town on his quest to Victory Road, we've been obsessed with filling our Pokedex and catching 'em all. The original 151 seem like a distant memory, and these days, it's hard to keep track of who is who.

What is your favourite Pokemon?

Over on Reddit, u/BluCondorr started an argument of biblical proportions by asking what the subreddit's favourite Pokemon is. The OP made a solid case for Nidoking, but let's look at the comments.

Coming in first place, there are 913 upvotes for Crobat. The Gen II addition is the final form of Zubat and picks up where the beloved Golbat left off. The anime helped make Crobat popular, with Brock's Zubat being the first Pokemon Ash's pal caught in the series.

Defending why so many love Crobat, one wrote, "They took a line everyone hated and made an awesome third stage that you have to have high friendship to evolve. Plus Crobat is tied for second fastest Flying type and has decent attack and movepool."

Another added, "This is so cool. Wasn't expecting to see my favorite pokemon at the top of the comments! Crobat is the best and it's beautiful to see so many other fans!🥲" A third simply wrote, "Same, boss. Crobat shreds ass."

In terms of other popular choices, there was a lot of love for Tyranitar (422 upvotes). One gamer championed the dangerous dino and wrote, "Was happy I didn’t have to scroll far to see the goat man." Coming in third, 175 of you said Lapras is the best 'mon.

What does The Pokemon Company claim is the most popular Pokemon?

It's not as simple as being like, "Fans agree this is the best Pokemon." It changes more often than Ash has changed travelling companions, and although Pikachu would be an easy choice, the electric mouse tends to miss out on the rankings.

In December 2022, research confirmed Charizard is the most popular Pokemon in terms of monthly Google searches, while Gardevoir came in second and Sylveon in third. Back in 2021, The Pokemon Company revealed its own most popular 'mon of all time, with Dedenne beating the competition

The Reddit thread definitely gave us some interesting options, with others saying Porygon, Gloom, and Snorlax. Someone simply said Growlithe because it's a good doggo. If we've learned anything, it's that you can never please everyone. Still, Crobat is an odd frontrunner..for now.
