One moment, we were all happily playing MultiVersus, fighting each other as Shaggy from Scooby-Doo and literal Batman. The next, it was stripped from us and pulled from the industry as though it had never existed.

The world of Smash-a-likes has never really faced up to the giant that it intended to replicate, but in a pretty shocking turn, MultiVersus shows up and proved that even Velma Dinkley can offer an alternative to Nintendo's premier fighting title. But now what?

Thankfully, even though we suffered the loss of our unlocks and gameplay when the game shockingly pulled the plug on its beta and revealed that its return would come much later, we thankfully shouldn't have to wait much longer, as fans are thinking that an announcement could be imminent.

MultiVersus seems to be planning something

Fans are pointing out in the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit that MultiVersus seems to be up to something on social media. Fans are theorising that the team behind the game may be planning to bring the brutal brawler back to life.

First suggested by Twitter user MultiverSusie, the game's Twitter account has removed mention of MultiVersus' second season from its pinned tweet - opting to leave the page without a pinned post. Plus, Reddit has pointed out that the game has just created a Threads account, leading players to believe that an announcement is inbound.

We don't yet know anything about whatever comeback the game is planning, but as the closure of MultiVersis came with the reveal that the game would be returning in 2024, this makes sense in terms of timing.

MultiVersus' return doesn't have a release date

As of right now, there's no official word on the title's return. Given that the team promised a comeback in 2024, it seems like the right time to start teasing things. Maybe these minor changes are heralding a larger announcement to come before the year's out - and if that's the case, fingers crossed for an early 2024 release.

Until we get an announcement from Player First Games, MultiVersus is left in the dark. It's been too long since we blasted Finn from Adventure Time into the abyss, and we've got a hankering to do it again.
