The writing was already on the wall for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and now, Rocksteady Studios has killed our hopes of seeing the villainous looter shooter in 2023.

Known for its acclaimed work on the Batman: Arkham trilogy, Rocksteady is leaving Gotham City behind for a whole new locale. Rocksteady's last release was Batman Arkham VR In 2016, meaning by the time Kill the Justice League finally releases, it will have been eight since the studio's last release

Players explain how to fix Kill the Justice League

With Warner Bros. refusing to reiterate a 2023 release - and Kill the Justice League going quiet following its divisive gameplay trailer - many clocked a delay was on the cards. The studio confirmed the delay on April 13 and left a legion of players angrier than Amanda Waller on a bad day.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has slipped from its looming May 26 release, all the way back to February 2, 2024. With nine months to let it cook, fans are coming up with a list of improvements that could address a number of issues.

Responding to the news on Twitter, one critic asked for the devs to remove the looting aspect, axe the controversial live-service elements, and the equally divisive "always online" requirement. The OP thinks the title will flop without these changes, but come on, it won't happen.

Others are calling for Kill the Justice League to be rebuilt from the ground up, which would also be an impossible task in just nine months. The Battle Pass system might be a frustrating niggle, but with WB Interactive hyping it, we doubt it'll be stripped from the finished game.

Some players rally around Rocksteady

Despite some complaints about Arkham Knight's story and Batmobile combat, it's true that Rocksteady didn't really drop the ball with its Batman trilogy. Although it's sad we never got the rumoured Superman game from the studio, there are high hopes that the team can deliver again with Kill the Justice League.

Delays are unfortunately commonplace these days, and the last thing we'd want is a Cyberpunk 2077 situation where the game is rushed out. Everything from Hogwarts Legacy to Starfield has faced multiple delays, and while it's an annoying precedent, it's probably for the best with Kill the Justice League

One wrote, "Take all the time you need, we'll be here when y'all are ready," while another added, "The delay will be well worth it, can’t wait for February." A third concluded, "Please take the time you need. Can't ever be easy to make a decision like this but if it's for the betterment of the game, we can wait."

Whatever is going on with Kill the Justice League, Task Force X is being put back on ice for a little longer. In the meantime, gamers are arguing whether Rockstar or Rocksteady is vying for the longest development cycle between games.
