The Nintendo Switch may be one of the highest-selling consoles of all time, but the community for the Steam Deck is quickly growing - especially with stock being made more readily available. For those who have picked up a Steam Deck, the most alluring factor is being able to play their favourite PC titles on the go, including a selection of PlayStation exclusives that have made their way over.

With the launch of Sonic Frontiers on the horizon, fans are curious whether the blue hedgehog will be speeding his way over to the Steam Deck. With an already wide selection of Sonic the Hedgehog games available on Steam, it’s understandable why many would be excited to check out the latest iteration on the go. If you want to know if Sonic Frontiers is launching on the Steam Deck, look no further.

With Sonic Frontiers launching simultaneously on the Nintendo Switch, it’s easy to expect it to run on the Steam Deck. However, the answer isn’t quite as simple as that and may be more surprising than you initially expect.

According to the official Steam page for Sonic Frontiers, the game is unsupported on the Steam Deck, which means “Valve is still working on adding support for this game on Steam Deck”. It’s unclear if and when this may be updated, but in its current launch, it doesn’t appear to be officially supported on Steam Deck.

That being said, that doesn’t necessarily the game will not run at all. Other titles, such as Batman: Arkham Origins, are also said to not be supported, but reportedly run beautifully according to many Steam Deck owners. It’s not advisable to take the leap and purchase Sonic Frontiers specifically for Steam Deck, however, if you’re picking up the game on Steam and own the handheld separately, then it’s always worth giving it a go.

Since Sonic Frontiers doesn’t officially launch until November 8th, we could see an update go live which introduces official Steam Deck support. It’s worth keeping an eye out on the official Steam page for any updates if you’re eager to play it on the go and don’t own a Nintendo Switch.
