You may want to know how to solve the Resident Evil 4 sword puzzle, as it's not obvious how you are supposed to acquire all the swords, and how you place them is part of the mystery. 

The Resident Evil series is known for heavily featuring puzzles, and while the RE4 Remake puzzles are some of the simplest ones in the franchise due to a focus on action-horror gameplay, they can still leave you scratching your head.

How to solve the sword puzzle in Resident Evil 4

During the Castle portion of Resident Evil 4, you will arrive at an area called the treasury shortly after first meeting and fighting a Garrador in the dungeon. You'll know you are here when you come across four metal engravings of knights, which contain indentations that swords can be placed into.

Solving this puzzle requires you to slot the correct swords into the correct engravings, meaning you will need to do some rearranging.

Before you mess around with the engravings though, locate the metal gate in the same room that contains the symbols for a stag, snake, and bird. Nearby, you will notice a gong with the same stag symbol on it, so interact with it to start the process of opening the gate. 

After activating the gong, the stag will light up. You will now need to do the same for the other two symbols, except that they are on the other side of the gate, so you can just shoot them. After the gate opens, you can head inside and grab the sword for the next step of the Resident Evil 4 sword puzzle.

Pick up all the swords that are located in the engravings to make the next step easier, and from left to right, place the following swords in: Iron Sword, Golden Sword, Bloodied Sword, and Rusted Sword. 

With all the swords in the right place, the gate will open, and you can carry onward through the castle.
