Now that Mega Garchomp has finally made its Pokemon GO debut, Trainers are surely wondering what its best counters are and which weaknesses you'll need to target to beat the Raid Day Boss.

Whilst Garchomp's Mega Evolution is incredibly powerful, there are some key weaknesses for you to exploit with an effective range of Pokemon to take into the Raid - so, let's get right into the best Mega Garchomp counters in Pokemon GO.

Mega Garchomp weaknesses in Pokemon GO

As a dual Dragon/Ground-type, Mega Garchomp's biggest weakness to keep in mind when selecting your counters is Ice-type moves - as these will deal a huge 256% super-effective damage.

Alternatively, if your Pokemon collection is short of powerful Ice-type creatures, Mega Garchomp is also weak to Dragon and Fairy-type attacks - which each deal 160% super-effective damage.

Best counters to beat Mega Garchomp

Focusing on Ice-type moves as its biggest weakness, the best Mega Garchomp counters and movesets to beat the Raid Boss are as follows:

Counter Fast Move Charge Move
Mega Abomasnow Powder Snow Weather Ball
Darmanitan (Galarian) Ice Fang Avalance
Mamoswine Powder Snow Avalanche
Weavile Ice Shard Avalanche

How to find & catch Mega Garchomp

You'll be able to battle and catch Mega Garchomp in Pokemon GO through Mega Raids, starting with a special Raid Day event on November 11, 2023, from 2PM to 5PM local time. This event also features a variety of bonuses and even ticket-exclusive bonuses.

As well as being able to catch Garchomp after beating it in a Mega Raid, you'll also be able to Mega Evolve your own Garchomp once you obtain enough Garchomp Mega Energy. You can get this by defeating this specific Raid Boss in Mega Raids and also by completing certain research tasks.

Can Mega Garchomp be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

Yes, Mega Garchomp can be Shiny in Pokemon GO. After you defeat the Raid Boss and head to the catch screen, you'll have an estimated 1-in-64 chance of coming across a Shiny Mega Garchomp. This is the case for all Mega Raids in the game.

Although the odds are much better than the standard 1-in-500 chance of a regular Shiny encounter, you still may need to take on quite a few Mega Garchomp Raids before finding a Shiny version. Be that as it may, I'd say your patience will be more than worth it.

That's everything you need to know about the best Mega Garchomp counters and weaknesses to beat the Raid Boss in Pokemon GO.
