You'll need the best Pokemon GO Mega Blastoise counters to take down this three-cannoned beast. Mega Blastoise was one of the first Mega Evolutions introduced in Pokemon GO, and remains one of the best. Anyone capable of taking on this Water-type Starter Pokemon in Raids should definitely do so, as it's a fantastic Water-type attacker. To help you defeat Mega Blastoise in Pokemon GO, we've outlined its weaknesses and the best Pokemon to take it on with. Additionally, we've got the scoop on the best moveset for Mega Blastoise once you catch it.

Taking down any Raid boss can be easy if you know your type matchups. Check out our Pokemon GO type chart for a refresher.

As a pure Water-type, Mega Blastoise only has two weaknesses: Electric and Grass

On the flipside, there are a handful of types that it resists: Fire, Steel, Ice, and Water itself.

When going up against a Mega Blastoise Raid, Electric-types might serve better than Grass-types in general, but both are great in their own way.

Here are some of the best Pokemon to take into a Mega Blastoise Raid:

  • Mega Venusaur (Vine Whip | Frenzy Plant/Solar Beam)
  • Mega Manectric (Thunder Fang | Wild Charge)
  • Zekrom (Charge Beam | Wild Charge)
  • Zarude (Vine Whip | Power Whip)
  • Electivire (Thunder Shock | Wild Charge)
  • Therian Thundurus (Volt Switch | Thunderbolt)
  • Tapu Bulu (Bullet Seed | Grass Knot)
  • Roserade (Razor Leaf | Grass Knot)
  • Raikou (Thunder Shock | Wild Charge)
  • Magnezone (Spark | Wild Charge)
  • Tangrowth (Vine Whip | Power Whip)

Unfortunately, Mega Evolutions cannot be used in PvP, save for battles against Team GO Rocket. So, we've listed the best moves for PvE only, as that's where Mega Evolutions will see the vast majority of their battles.

For a fast move, Mega Blastoise should be taught Water Gun. It generates energy nicely, and it receives the Same-Type Attack Bonus. Bite is good too, but it falls behind Water Gun.

As for charge moves, Mega Blastoise's best option is, of course, the Community Day exclusive Hydro Cannon. This is one of the best Water-type moves in the game. If you didn't obtain the move during any event where it was available, it can be taught with an Elite Charged TM. If you don't have those, Hydro Pump is a decent substitute.

Blastoise's fellow Starter, Charizard, also Mega Evolves. Click here for our guide to Pokemon GO Mega Charizard Y.
