It may be time to put a new puzzle experience on your radar with the upcoming release of Paper Trail, a 2D adventure game about manipulating paper to explore a vibrant world.

It's set to be part of Netflix Games and will get a wider release on most notable platforms, so if you're looking to learn everything we know so far, read on.

What is Paper Trail?

First things first, Paper Trail is a top-down, 2D puzzle adventure game that follows a budding academic called Paige as she leaves home for the first time to explore the world.

The main gameplay concept involved manipulating the paper world you are in, allowing you to contort, spin, rotate, and twist both objects in the environment and the pages making up the environment itself.

For example, one puzzle showed the player folding the corner of the page down to create a bridge over a gap, allowing Paige to cross and carry on her journey. While the mechanic looks simple - with the interaction consisting of clicking and dragging - the Steam page promises it will become "devilishly tricky!"

In addition to solving puzzles and exploring various biomes as part of your journey, you'll encounter a cast of characters with their own stories about the wider world.

Is there a Paper Trail release date?

Paper Trail has been confirmed to be launching on May 21, 2024, as showcased in the release date trailer, which dropped in early March (you can check that out below).

There have been several trailers for the game so far, with the first dropping back in June 2022. This was the official announcement trailer, which gave us our first look at the gameplay and what exactly the experience is about.

The next trailer in March 2023 confirmed Paper Trail as part of Netflix Games, followed by the Steam Demo trailer two months later.

The most recent showing was the release date trailer in March 2024. This was the longest look into it yet, with 90 seconds of footage and an extended voice-over with the main character Paige explaining the premise of the game.

What platforms will Paper Trail be on

Paper Trail is confirmed to be launching on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the Netflix mobile app.
