While there is a convenient ferry service available, there are quite a few spots in Solisitia that you can only reach by getting your own ship. There is so much to explore that's off the beaten path in Octopath Traveler 2, and also some scary unique monsters to fight in the sea.

However, you might be wondering how to get a ship, because it isn't abundantly clear if you're not looking closely. Thankfully we've got you covered in the guide below, so all you need to do is keep reading to find out.

How can you get a ship?

If order to get a ship in Octopath Traveler 2 you must complete the Scent of Commerce Side Story for Partitio in Tropu'hopu.

Make sure that you've got Partitio in your party for the Side Story to trigger, and then continue to the eastern edge of Tropu'hopu until you reach a ship and a cutscene should start.

The ships owner and designer will then request that you pay her 100,000 Silver Leaves to get the ship - which is of course quite a significant amount. This is unfortunately not going to get any lower so you better get saving.

One thing that you can do is make sure that you've found Masoud's treasure in Octopath Traveler 2 and recruited the legendary merchant, as that will save you 20% (20,000 Silver Leaves) on this hefty transaction.

You are able to customize your ship to a certain degree, allowing you to change the ship colour and add your own sail symbol if you want. The ship customisation options are as follows:

  • Colour:
    • Unpainted
    • Black
    • Red
    • Blue
  • Sail Symbol:
    • No symbol
    • Sun emblem
    • Trident of the sea god
    • Octopus

While you're not going to be able to create something wholly unique, it still gives you the opportunity to make the ship more you which is always nice.

Using the ship is thankfully very easy, as all you need to do is head to a port and climb up the ship's ladder to start sailing. You can technically go anywhere the sea connects to, with multiple islands and areas inaccessible any other way.

However, you will need to be very careful as the sea holds far more dangers than you might expect. You should be at the very least level 35 with your whole party before you begin properly exploring, but there are plenty of areas and enemies that are far more dangerous than this too.
