MW2 crossplay is a great feature to let friends play together, but it isn't something that everyone needs. Modern Warfare 2 allows for crossplay between PC and console players, meaning a mixture of controller and mouse and keyboard players. Crossplay between these platforms can cause issues, so some players will want to opt out. Here is everything you need to know about how to turn off crossplay in MW2.

For anyone not sure why such a fuss has been made online about disabling crossplay, allow us to elaborate. Crossplay allows players on different platforms to play together. It can be an extremely useful system for friends on different consoles, bringing more people together and expanding the number of players who can play together, shortening wait times for games.

However, it also means that players using mouse and keyboard are added to the same games as others who play on console with a controller. Generally speaking, it is considered an advantage to play with a mouse against console players, who cannot aim as quickly. As such, many players on console who take their competition seriously prefer to play without crossplay, to avoid mouse and console players.

For PC and PlayStation players, the process is very simple. If you are on those platforms and you wish to opt out of crossplay, you just need to head to the options menu. Go to the Account and Network tab, and under the Online heading, you should see a toggle option for crossplay. Turn the option off to disable crossplay, simple as that.

In regards to Xbox, the news is not as good. For some reason, the option to disable crossplay does not appear in any of the Xbox versions of Modern Warfare 2. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason why crossplay cannot be disabled on Xbox, so perhaps the feature will be added later on in a future patch.

That's it for Modern Warfare 2 crossplay. For more on the game, check out MW2 weapon tuning explained.
