Fortnite update 29.01 has arrived, and despite being a smaller patch than usual, there's a lot of new content to enjoy including the return of the popular Floor Is Lava LTM!

After teasing that Midas would be returning to the Island, Epic Games have dropped the first update of Fortnite Chapter 5: Season 2, so here's everything you need to know about the new weapons and events.

Fortnite update 29.01 patch notes

Grab the Chains of Hades

Joining the Thunderbolt of Zeus and the Wings of Icarus is the Chains of Hades. This brand-new Mythic was first teased in the Chapter 5: Season 2 reveal trailer, and now it's finally available to add to your inventory!

I jumped into the game and can confirm you can now get this Mythic weapon by defeating Hades at The Underworld, or you occasionally can find it around the Island as regular floor loot - if you're lucky!

Drum Gun returns with a twist

The Chains of Hades isn't the only weapon you can add to your loadout following the 29.01 update, as the Drum Gun has made a long overdue return to the loot pool - although it's a little different this time around.

When it first appeared in Chapter 1: Season 4, the Drum Gun was an Assault Rifle, but in Chapter 5: Season 2, it's an SMG. This means it's technically a new weapon, despite having the same name as the classic gun.

Defend yourself with a Shield Bubble Jr.

Longtime Fortnite fans will likely remember the Shield Bubble, which blocks bullets and projectiles from the inside and outside, but now a newer, tinier version of this throwable item has debuted in the game.

With this handy item, you can set up a dome-like shield around yourself to fend off incoming danger. This is ideal for when you need to heal or shield up, or just as a bit of protection when you're sniping opponents.

Watch out! The Floor Is Lava!

If you thought regular Battle Royale matches were tricky, wait until you jump into The Floor Is Lava! In this limited-time mode, you'll need to climb high and flex your building skills to survive against the rising lava.

Despite being a fan-favourite mode, The Floor Is Lava will likely only be around for a short while, so make the most of it while you can. It's not in the game at the time of writing, but it should arrive later today.
