A brand new item called the Shield Bubble Jr. has arrived in Fortnite, offering a tiny twist on an old favourite that could prove incredibly useful if you're caught up in an intense gunfight.

Longtime Fortnite players might remember the Shield Bubble, a throwable item that produced a giant shield forcefield in the game. While that's long been vaulted, you can now add the new Shield Bubble Jr. to your loadout thanks to the latest Chapter 5: Season 2 update.

What is the Shield Bubble Jr. in Fortnite?

The Shield Bubble Jr. is a throwable item that creates a mini forcefield wherever it lands. It stops bullets and projectiles from both the outside and inside, so it essentially acts as a protective barrier for all players.

That might sound useless when you consider that you can't shoot enemies from inside it, but there are plenty of uses for it - the main one being to safely heal yourself or your teammates in a dangerous situation.

Because the Shield Bubble Jr. is smaller than the original Shield Bubble, it's much easier to dip in and out of it when sniping other players. Think of it as instant cover that you can put up for protection wherever you are.

Be aware that other players can enter your Shield Bubble Jr. though, so you're not completely immune!

How to find the Shield Bubble Jr.

The Shield Bubble Jr. is an uncommon item (those are the green ones), so it's pretty easy to find them! I found one as floor loot shortly after landing, but you can also get them inside Chests and Supply Drops.

I'd recommend practising with them before heading into battle. Throw one down and get a feel for how it works, side-stepping in and out of the shield while aiming as that's the best way to use this item.
