Five Key Differences Between Apex Legends Mobile and Apex Legends
Back in September of 2020, it was leaked that a Mobile version of Apex Legends was in the works. A little over half a year later, and the Apex Legends Mobile Beta has officially gone live in select regions.
Based on early Beta footage, it appears that Apex Legends Mobile will have some significant distinctions from the main game. Let’s go over five key differences between Apex Legends Mobile and standard Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Mobile Is Played In The Third-Person
The most obvious difference between Apex Legends Mobile and Apex Legends is that the Mobile version is played in the third-person point of view (POV). This feature has a massive influence on the gameplay. Players can use the third-person camera to peek around corners and other strategies not available in the base version of Apex Legends. Plus, third-person allows the player to easily view their cool Legend skins.
Players can move around in the third-person view and also hip-fire their weapons in third-person. However, aiming down sight will send the user into the first-person POV. This is the POV Apex Legends vets are familiar with.
Apex Legends Mobile will likely feel like an entirely different experience due to the fact that the game is playable in a third-person POV.
Apex Legends Mobile Will Have Exclusive Skins
Apex Legends Mobile will have its own unique skins not available in the base version of the game. And it doesn’t end there. Apex Legends Mobile will have its very own Battle Pass as well.
Based on Beta footage, it seems like some fan-favourite cosmetics from the base game will return to pair with the brand new Mobile exclusive cosmetics that are to come.
Apex Legends Mobile Will Have A Limited Legend Pool
Judging from the Beta footage so far, not all Legends will be available in the Mobile version of Apex Legends. Some of the original Legends, such as Pathfinder and Mirage, are unavailable. Meanwhile, Octane and Wattson — who were released in Season One and Two, respectively — are playable on Mobile.
Perhaps the developers believe that a Legend with mobility like Path’s would be too overpowered on Mobile? It’s hard as it is to track a Pathfinder soaring through the sky with his grapple hook. Imagine trying to keep track of something like that while playing on a mobile device.
This may change when Mobile officially releases, but for now, it looks like the developers will hand-select a limited Legend pool for the Mobile version of Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Mobile’s Legends Have Different Abilities and Maps
Apex Legends Mobile will be played on a different version of the game than standard Apex Legends. This means that the Legends and even the maps will be slightly different.
For example, in the Mobile version, Lifeline still has her Res Shield that was removed on PC and Console in Season 9: Legacy. Looking at the maps, Mobile players are playing on the original version of World’s Edge in the Beta. The Planet Harvester has not yet arrived, and locations such as Capital City have not been decimated by the destruction it caused.
The team working on Apex Legends Mobile and the group working on the standard game are not the same individuals. With that, there are sure to be some slight differences, such as what and when certain content comes out. Apex Legends Mobile may not be updated at the same pace as standard Apex Legends. Expect to see some discrepancies in Legend abilities and the maps.
Apex Legends Mobile Will Have A Different Meta
The Meta in Apex Legends Mobile will be different from the meta witnessed in the PC and Console versions of the game.
Mobile shooters are known for their amped-up aim assist. Apex Legends Mobile looks to be no different. Aim assist has been cranked up in order to make things easier on Mobile players. Aiming with your fingers on a mobile screen is no easy task. High levels of aim assist are implemented with the hope of making the game smoother for Mobile players that would otherwise struggle to hit any shots without some guidance.
The weapon meta on Mobile will see some key differences due to this fact. On PC, precision weapons such as the Wingman and the Bocek Bow dominate because it’s much easier to line up accurate shots. When Mobile’s boosted aim assist comes into play, these types of guns will lose their advantage.
Automatic weapons such as the R-301, Spitfire, and even the Havoc will be Mobile players' go-to. With strong aim assist, players simply need to aim in the general direction of an enemy and hold down on the trigger. The aim assist will do most of the work as you beam opponents like a laser. Aim-assisted automatic weapons will outmatch precision weapons like the Wingman.
Strong movement will be even more important in the Mobile version of the game. Mobile players will struggle to move at the level Apex Legends vets are accustomed to. Watching through Beta footage, one will notice that it appears hard to move at all on the Mobile version. It probably won’t be rare to see players standing completely still and firing on Mobile.
Players with strong movement will absolutely dominate Mobile Apex. Being able to jump and slide around on Mobile will throw most opponents off of their game. Only the best of the best will be able to keep up with and track a player using advanced movement techniques.
We expect a unique meta to develop on Apex Legends Mobile.
Apex Legends Mobile and Apex Legends may share the same title, but the two’s gameplay experiences will certainly be different. Apex Legends Mobile is playable in the third person, Mobile has exclusive cosmetics, Mobile has limited access to the Legend pool, and Mobile will have different Legend abilities, maps, and metas.
