After doubling down on the Specialist system, DICE has set a plan in motion to introduce a Battlefield 2042 Classes rework in Season 3. In previous Battlefield games, class identity was an incredibly important gameplay mechanic. Players were able to slot into four different roles, each of which served a unique purpose on the Battlefield. So, how does DICE plan to introduce the Battlefield 2042 Classes rework? Here's everything you need to know.

To be clear, Specialists will still remain in Battlefield 2042 once these changes are made. Each character will still have their own unique abilities, however, they will now fall under one of the four classic classes: Assault, Support, Engineer, and Recon.

Here is how each of the Battlefield 2042 Specialists will be divided up into each class:

  • Assault: Mackay, Sundance, Dozer
  • Support: Angel, Falck, Season 2 Specialist
  • Engineer: Lis, Boris, Irish
  • Recon: Casper, Paik, Rao

Another important Battlefield 2042 feature that will remain unchanged is the ability to use any weapon with any class. However, Specialists will now only be able to equip a limited combination of gadgets. Here is how the equipment will be divided up:

Assault: Med Pen

Battlefield 2042 Classes: Release Date

As for when we can expect to see these changes, it won't be for a while yet. DICE is estimating that it will make this update in the latter half of Season 3. Given that Season 2 hasn't yet started, it's likely that we won't see the Battlefield 2042 Classes rework until sometime in early 2023.

The team is looking for the community to provide feedback on the changes. If you'd like to throw your opinion into the ring, you can do so on the official Battlefield website.
